Writes Gauteng has become known as the so-called kidnapping capital of South Africa. Recent statistics indicate that almost 53-percent of all kidnapping cases in the country are reported in the province. Reports indicate that kidnappers disguise themselves as police officers, complete with uniforms, badges, and even vehicles with blue lights, and use their authority to stop, deceive, and abduct their victims. From January to March, there were 144 kidnappings in Gauteng, where ransoms were demanded.

Reports the Tax Ombud, Yanga Mputa, reported that she had come across about 16-thousand cases where e-filing profiles of the Revenue Service were hijacked. The extent of the scam could not yet be determined because the Revenue Service could not come to an agreement on the release of the ombud’s report.
