# National police commissioner Fannie Masemola says Police minister Senzo Mchunu told him that president Cyril Ramaphosa approved the disbanding of the political killings task team. Masemola told the Madlanga commission in Pretoria that this claim caught him by surprise. He added that Mchunu became very angry when the unit continued working, calling the minister’s behaviour concerning:
# Gauteng Health and Wellness MEC, Nomantu Nkomo-Ralehoko says her department is actively looking into the possibility of establishing its own laboratory to fast-track the processing of pathology results. Nkomo-Ralehoko was addressing delays in processing pathology results in the provincial legislature today. She says this initiative aims to enhance internal capacity, reduce dependency on National Health Laboratory Services and ensure that cancer patients receive timely and efficient care:
# The International Criminal Court has charged former Philippine president Rodrigo Duterte with three counts of crimes against humanity. The 80-year-old is accused of being an indirect co-perpetrator in the murders of over 76 people during his so-called “war on drugs” between 2013 and 2018. Duterte has been held in a detention facility in the Netherlands since March. ICC spokesperson Fadi El Abdallah has dismissed claims that the court is colluding with the country’s current president, Ferdinand Marcos’ administration, in Duterte’s case:
# Rugby: New Zealand’s assistant coach Jason Holland says the team’s mission to retain the Bledisloe Cup against Australia has helped them move on from the pain of their record defeat to the Springboks. The All Blacks have held the trophy since 2003 and can lock it away for a 23rd successive year with victory over the Wallabies in the Rugby Championship clash at Eden Park on Saturday. Australia lead the Rugby Championship on 11 points, one ahead of second-placed South Africa and third-placed New Zealand with two rounds to play.
# The Financial indicators: The dollar trades at 17-rand-29-cents and the euro at 20-rand-40-cents. One British pound costs 23-rand-36-cents and Bitcoin trades at 112-thousand-939-dollars. Gold sells at three-thousand-785-dollars-46-cents a fine ounce and Brent crude oil is quoted at 66-dollars-59-cents a barrel.
# And finally: A new exhibition titled Marie Antoinette Style has opened at the V&A South Kensington in London, marking the UK’s first exhibition on the French queen Marie Antoinette. The exhibition features 250 objects, including rare personal items owned by Antoinette, such as a pair of silk slippers, jewels from her private collection, and the final note she ever wrote before her death. Curator of Marie Antoinette Style, Sarah Grant, says Antoinette had a profound impact on European taste and fashion, creating a distinctive style that now has universal appeal and application.
