# The City of Cape Town has unveiled the fifth edition of it’s flagship place-marketing magazine, This Is Cape Town. The publication highlights the metro’s six destination-marketing themes: Visit, Live, Work, Study, Play and Invest. Mayoral committee member for Economic Growth, James Vos, says volume five shines a spotlight on the Khayelitsha Fashion Week, the wine routes across the metro and surrounding regions, and how Cape Town’s clothing brands are leading the way in sustainability and localised production:
# The Ebb-and-Flow rest camp in the Wilderness section of the Garden Route National Park has been named Best Weekend Escape at the Best of George Readers’ Choice Awards in the Western Cape. The award, based on public nominations and voting, recognises outstanding local businesses. Known for its forest trails, panoramic views, and diverse accommodation, the camp previously won Best Performing Camp at the 2024 SANParks Kudu Awards.
# The University of the Free State secured a place in the top three universities nationally at the 2025 GradStar Awards. Fifty-three students were recognised among the prestigious Top 500 list. The awards, now in its tenth year, highlight students across South African universities who demonstrate the employability skills, leadership qualities, and potential to make a meaningful impact in the workplace. UFS says this recognition demonstrates the institution’s commitment to academic excellence and student success.
# Durban University of Technology is preparing to confer degrees and award diplomas to 940 students, who will graduate at the 2025 Spring graduation ceremonies this week. The graduation list comprises 553 women and 387 men. This means that 59-percent of the adaptive graduates are women. The university will also confer an honorary doctorate on renowned businessman Sipho Nkosi. This is in recognition of his significant contribution and stellar accomplishments towards entrepreneurship, business leadership, green and renewable energy and youth and women empowerment.
# And finally: Netflix’s Adolescence scooped up six awards at the 77th Emmy Awards. These include best limited or anthology series, while 15-year-old Owen Copper won best supporting actor in a limited series, becoming the youngest men’s winner of any acting category. Seth Rogen won four Emmys for his comedy series The Studio. The Pitt won two Emmys, including best drama series and best actor for Noah Wyle. Tramell Tillman won Best Supporting Actor in a drama series for Severance.
