Good day, let’s look at the latest sports news and scores:

Ireland has moved into second place, with the All Blacks dropping to third. France and England are fourth and fifth, respectively. Australia has slipped to seventh following their narrow 28-26 defeat to Argentina in Sydney. Los Pumas have moved into sixth position, a crucial spot as it will be band one for the draw for the 2027 World Cup in December.
Meanwhile, the four highest-ranked teams are through to the Women’s World Cup semifinals. Defending champions New Zealand thrashed South Africa 46–17 to set up a mouth-watering semifinal against Canada, ranked number two in the world, on Friday. Canada defeated Australia 46–5 in the quarterfinals. On the other side of the draw, hostesses and world number one, England, will meet France in a blockbuster semifinal in Exeter on Saturday. England thrashed Scotland 40-8 while France narrowly beat Ireland 18-13 in the quarterfinals.
# Cricket: Yesterday’s series-deciding third T20 between South Africa and England at Trent Bridge was abandoned without a ball being bowled because of rain. The Proteas won a rain-affected series opener at Cardiff by 14 runs, with Harry Brook’s side levelling it up with a record-breaking 146-run victory at Old Trafford. The South African squad will now return to prepare for the start of the domestic season, as well as a multi-format tour of Pakistan in October, including the defence of their World Test Championship title with two Tests.
# Athletics: Twenty-four-year-old Oblique Seville edged his Jamaican compatriot Kishane Thompson to win gold in the men’s 100-metres at the World Championships in Tokyo. South African duo Gift Leotlela and Akani Simbine finished fifth and seventh, respectively. The country’s record holder in the women’s 100-metres hurdles, Marioné Fourie, is through to the semifinals. South African champion Zakithi Nene and his compatriot Lythe Pillay are through to the men’s 400-metres semifinals.
# And, motorsport: Ducati’s Marc Marquez is closer to clinching his seventh MotoGP title after winning the San Marino Grand Prix in Italy. The Spaniard overtook Aprilia rider Marco Bezzecchi on lap 12 and never looked back. Bezzecchi finished second with Gresini Racing’s Alex Marquez in third. South Africa’s Brad Binder finished tenth. With a 182-point lead, Marquez can win the title at the Japanese Grand Prix later this month, but says he is taking it one race at a time:
