# President Cyril Ramaphosa says government is determined to restore municipalities’ ability to deliver consistent services and uphold citizens’ rights. Speaking in Rustenburg, North West, he cited running water shortages as unacceptable, condemning poor governance, financial mismanagement, and corruption. Ramaphosa emphasised the need for municipalities to efficiently use funds for indigent support, drive inclusive growth, reduce poverty, and implement high-impact projects:
# The DA says minister of Tourism, Patricia de Lille’s dismal handling of SA Tourism’s affairs has cost it a whopping 500-million-rand. The DA’s Haseena Ismail says her tenure has gone from one scandal to the next. He says De Lille has not been transparent over her reckless decision to dissolve the board. She adds that her ongoing refusal to account has had tangible consequences:
Moving abroad:
# US president Donald Trump says a suspect in the fatal shooting of Charlie Kirk is likely in custody. The conservative activist was assassinated at Utah Valley University on Wednesday. Trump told Fox News someone close to the suspect, identified as 22-year-old Tyler Robinson, reported him, and his father convinced him to surrender to police. Kirk was shot in the neck during a debate in what authorities describe as a targeted attack from a rooftop. Trump blames members of the radical left for the killing, but urges his supporters to remain non-violent.

Stick says they had learned many lessons from last week’s defeat in Auckland.
# The financial indicators: The dollar trades at 17-rand-38-cents and the euro at 20-rand-36-cents. One British pound costs 23-rand-54-cents and Bitcoin trades at 114-thousand-949-dollars. Gold sells at three-thousand-651-dollars-50-cents a fine ounce and Brent crude oil is quoted at 67-dollars-20-cents a barrel.
# And finally: The Western Cape government is celebrating Heritage Month by promoting a vision of heritage that is inclusive, dynamic, and rooted in the lived experiences of communities. This is under the 2025 national theme, Reimagine Our Heritage Institutions for a New Era. MEC for Cultural Affairs and Sport, Ricardo Mackenzie, says one of the events is hosted by the Western Cape Archives and Records Service today, and is a free family history workshop for beginners:
