BULLETIN 12 September 3 pm
Good afternoon. I am……..
In this bulletin:
# Tshwane warns of looming water shortages as consumption soars
# Deputy president Mashatile pledges stronger state support for emerging farmers
# And athletics: Usain Bolt agrees he could’ve set a 100-metre world record of 9.42-seconds with super-spikes
# The City of Tshwane says high water consumption is putting the city at risk of running out of water, even before summer. Levels in 16 major reservoirs are dropping as demand exceeds limits, with the city currently pumping 22-percent more water than permitted. Prolonged water interruptions could follow if usage doesn’t decrease. The city’s Selby Bokaba urged residents to save water to protect the supply:
# Deputy president Paul Mashatile says government will provide stronger support for farmers and strengthen food security. Speaking at the NAMPO Cape 2025 in the Overberg in the Western Cape, Mashatile highlighted challenges such as water shortages, lack of funding and inadequate support for emerging farmers. He also confirmed ongoing talks with the US over tariffs on South African exports and said government is working to diversify markets to China, Russia, India, and the Middle East:
Meanwhile, the DA says Mashatile failed to demonstrate remorse for his failure to provide a complete declaration of interests in spite of the fine levied on him by Parliament’s joint Ethics Committee. The DA’s Dennis Ryder says in spite of the acknowledgement of guilt demonstrated by his payment of the fine, Mashatile deflected from the issue and showed no remorse:
# Athletics: Usain Bolt believes he could’ve run the 100-metres in 9.42-seconds in the super-spikes used these days. The Jamaican set the world record of 9.58-seconds at the 2009 world championships in Berlin, Germany, and also set the world record of 19.19-seconds in the 200-metre at the same meeting. Both records are still in place. Bolt agrees with the company that provided his running shoes, Puma, which predicted through research that he would’ve been able to set a new record in their new carbon-plated spikes.
# The financial indicators: The dollar trades at 17-rand-36-cents and the euro at 20-rand-36-cents. One British pound costs 23-rand-53-cents and Bitcoin trades at 114-thousand-972-dollars. Gold sells at three-thousand-650-dollars-27-cents a fine ounce and Brent crude oil is quoted at 65-dollars-1-cent a barrel.
# And finally: The inaugural South Africa Fashion Awards will be held in Sandton, Johannesburg, on the fourth of next month, marking the arrival of the World Fashion Awards in Africa. Legendary designer David Tlale will receive the Lifetime Achievement Award, while Laduma Ngxokolo will be honoured for his global contribution to fashion. Nominees include Thebe Magugu, Rich Mnisi, and Bonang Matheba. Voting is open and proceeds will benefit the Diamond Children’s Foundation.
