# We start with rugby: Springbok coach Rassie Erasmus has made bold changes to the team that will face New Zealand in their second Rugby Championship clash in Wellington on Saturday following the loss in Auckland. There are a new halfback pairing – Cobus Reinach and Sacha Feinberg-Mngomezulu – a new midfield pairing – Damian Willemse and Canan Moodie – a new wing, Ethan Hooker, and a new fullback, Aphelele Fassi. Captain Siya Kolisi returns to flanker. Eben Etzebeth, Handré Pollard, Damian de Allende, Willie le Roux, Jesse Kriel and Marco van Staden are not included.

# Cricket: England thrashed South Africa by a record 342 runs in the third and final one-day match in Southampton. Centuries from Jacob Bethell and Joe Root saw the hosts post 414 for five, England’s highest total in ODIs for three years. In reply, Jofra Archer ripped through the Proteas’ batting order, taking four wickets, as the visitors were bowled out for a mere 72. South Africa won the series 2-1. The two nations will now face each other in a three-match T20 series starting in Cardiff on Wednesday.
# Canoeing: Team South Africa ended the Marathon World Championships in Hungary with two silver and two bronze medals. Maritzburg College’s Keegan Vogt won silver in the K1 race and then partnered with Ryley Smith to win the bronze medal in the K2 event. Andy Birkett claimed his fourth silver medal in the men’s K1 race and his ninth championship medal overall. Jade Wilson completed the tally for South Africa with bronze in the women’s Under-23 K1 race. The country finished eleventh on the medal table.
# And tennis: Following his US Open triumph, Carlos Alcaraz is back to the world number one ranking for the first time since 2023. The 22-year-old Spaniard defeated his Italian rival Jannik Sinner in four sets to claim his second title at Flushing Meadows and sixth Grand Slam title. Sinner held the number one position for 65 consecutive weeks. Alcaraz says achieving one of the big targets he set for himself at the start of the year feels amazing:
