# TLU SA says property rights in South Africa have reached a critical point
# The Israeli military moves further into Gaza City and warns residents to leave
# And rugby: Rassie Erasmus is disappointed in the Boks
# Agriculture organisation TLU SA says property rights in South Africa have reached a critical turning point. TLU SA’s Bennie Van Zyl says the ideological unmasking of president Cyril Ramaphosa’s approach to land redistribution, as recently revealed in Harare, has irreversibly damaged the government’s credibility in this matter. Van Zyl says at the organisation congress on 10 September, TLU SA will take a firm stance on the crisis surrounding property rights:
# As the country marks the Police National Commemoration Day at Union Building in Pretoria today, the Police and Prisons Civil Rights Union says honouring fallen police officers must go hand in hand with decisive measures to protect those still serving. POPCRU’s spokesperson, Richard Mamabolo, says this year, South Africa remembers 27 SAPS members who fell between April last year and March this year. He says attending ceremonies that annually add names to the wall is not enough:
# The City of Tshwane says it has successfully interdicted the North West Housing Corporation from auctioning the city’s properties in Mabopane, north of the city. The city’s spokesperson, Selby Bokaba, says the city approached the Pretoria High Court following the NWHC’s advertisement of a bulk sale of more than 400 mixed-use properties, which were to be disposed of through an online auction:
# The ATM says it wholeheartedly supports the initiatives by the Development Bank of Southern Africa aimed at rescuing struggling municipalities across the country. The ATM’s spokesperson, Zama Ntshona, says South Africa must prioritize the funding models that cater specifically to the needs of the previously disadvantaged communities, particularly in rural municipalities. He says a comprehensive and inclusive funding approach is essential for these municipalities to thrive:
# The Israeli military warned Palestinians in Gaza City to leave for the south on Saturday before bombing a high-rise building as its forces advance deeper into the enclave’s largest urban area. Israeli forces have been carrying out an offensive on the suburbs of the northern city for weeks after Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu ordered the military to capture it. Netanyahu says Gaza City is a Hamas stronghold and capturing it is necessary to defeat the Palestinian Islamist militants, whose October 2023 attack on Israel sparked the war.
# Rugby: Head coach Rassie Erasmus was left frustrated by the Springboks’ errors in the 24-17 defeat to the All Blacks in their Rugby Championship match at Eden Park yesterday. South Africa quickly went into a 14-0 deficit after early tries from Emoni Narawa and Will Jordan. The Boks were chasing the game after that and were unable to overcome that deficit before half-time, with Handre Pollard adding only a penalty during the first 40 minutes. Erasmus admits that after the easy scores by the All Blacks, it was difficult for the Boks to come back:
