# The Energy Regulator has approved that ArcelorMittal South Africa’s applications to Eskom for six-year negotiated pricing agreements. The regulator’s spokesperson, Charles Hlebela says this is for its Newcastle and Vanderbijlpark steel manufacturing plants. He says in September and October 2024, AMSA submitted its applications to Eskom to consider negotiating reduced tariffs in terms of the provisions of the Framework for Negotiated Pricing Agreements:
Meanwhile, Eskom says the power system continues to be stable, resilient and reliable, enabling it to deliver 113 consecutive days without load-shedding as of today. Eskom spokesperson, Daphne Mokwena says there have been consistently low levels of unplanned outages, underscoring the sustained improvements in the performance of the generation fleet. She says unplanned losses due to breakdowns further reduced to seven-thousand-and-55-megawatts, and remain well below the ten-thousand-megawatts threshold:
# The DA says it has taken decisive action to have the Stellenbosch Municipality senior municipal employee Alexander Kannemeyer suspended. Kannemeyer was captured on video expressing racist views promoting unlawful labour practices. The party says within 48 hours of the news breaking, Stellenbosch mayor Jeremy Fasser called for a council meeting. The DA’s Willie Aucamp says the matter is about protecting employees from a toxic work environment:
# Tennis: Carlos Alcaraz from Spain and Jannik Sinner from Italy will face off in a highly anticipated US Open final, marking the third consecutive Grand Slam final between the two. Alcaraz, who has yet to drop a set, defeated Novak Djokovic in the semifinals in three sets. Sinner secured his spot by overcoming Felix Auger-Aliassime in a four-set battle. The women’s final will feature a rematch of the Wimbledon semifinal, with defending champion Aryna Sabalenka of Belarus taking on American Amanda Anisimova for the title.
# And finally: The Table Mountain National Park has noted that many visitors will want to experience the upcoming full moon and lunar eclipse from this evening until Monday night at different vantage points from the mountain. The South African National Parks spokesperson, Charles Phahlane says a lunar eclipse is different from a solar eclipse, which one should never stare at directly. He says visibility across the city of Cape Town is expected to be optimal, and no glasses or filters are needed:
