# The DA says a new report exposes ANC-engineered electricity price crisis
# And Tennis: Sabalenka is keen to play Kyrgios in an exhibition event
# The Mayibuye Consultation Process has officially transitioned into a political party with the launch of the Afrika Mayibuye Movement. Led by expelled MK Party secretary-general Floyd Shivambu, the new movement aims to operate independently, uniting communities, labour unions, and civic groups. Shivambu told the media the movement welcomes members from all backgrounds and is not a breakaway from the MK Party, EFF, or ANC:
# The DA says the Competition Commission’s cost of living report confirms the ANC’s failed electricity policy has driven prices up by 68-percent since 2020, more than double inflation. The party argues families are being forced to choose between food and electricity. The DA’s Kevin Mileham calls for a new pricing policy, an end to Eskom’s monopoly, and full accountability for regulatory failures, including the energy regulator, Nersa’s recent 54-billion-rand miscalculation:
# Putco Bus Company says it is deploying nearly 300 buses to move worshippers to the Zion Christian Church gathering in Moria, Limpopo this weekend. PUTCO’s spokesperson, Lindokuhle Xulu says the operation is expected to transport close to 18-thousand congregants. He says departures have been scheduled from the early hours of today from Gauteng and Mpumalanga, with the return journey scheduled for Sunday:
# The energy regulator, Nersa, has approved Cape Ocean Terminals’ application for a licence to build a petroleum storage facility and pipeline in Saldanha, in the Western Cape. The development, known as Project Albatross, will be rolled out in phases, with a total potential capacity of 390-thousand cubic metres of fuel. Nersa’s Charles Hlebela says the project will boost infrastructure investment and support local economic development:
# Buckingham Palace has announced with deep sorrow that the Duchess of Kent has passed away at the age of 92. A statement said on Friday she passed away peacefully last night at Kensington Palace, surrounded by her family. The duchess, Katharine, was the oldest member of the Royal Family, married to Prince Edward, the Duke of Kent, a first cousin of the late Queen Elizabeth II. She will be remembered as a familiar figure at the Wimbledon tennis championships, where she handed over trophies.
# And, Tennis: World number one Aryna Sabalenka says she’ll try her best “to kick his ass” if a proposed ‘Battle of the Sexes’ match with Nick Kyrgios goes ahead. Discussions have taken place about the event between Sabalenka and the former Wimbledon finalist, although the date and venue have not been decided. Three official matches labelled as the ‘Battle of the Sexes’ have taken place. American veteran Bobby Riggs beat Australia’s Margaret Court in 1973 before Billie Jean King exacted revenge four months later. In 1992 Jimmy Connors beat fellow Grand Slam champion Martina Navratilova.
