# The KwaZulu-Natal Road Traffic Inspectorate has confirmed that the N3’s northbound and southbound lanes near Peace Valley in Pietermaritzburg have reopened for traffic. Spokesperson Sindi Msimang says this followed a multi-vehicle crash that resulted in the closure of both lanes this morning. She says the accident occurred when a truck driver lost control and crashed into about 20 other vehicles.
# A suspected kidnapping kingpin was killed in a shootout with police and private security at the R21 in Kempton Park, Gauteng, last night. This follows the rescue of kidnapped Benoni businessman, Mohammed Bashir Ahmed Seedat. The 42-year-old was taken by gunmen from his business, Rynfield Drapers and Outfitters, on the 23rd of July during a business robbery. Police spokesperson, Athlenda Mathe, says the suspect was also wanted in Mozambique:

# Survivors of Jeffrey Epstein’s abuse say they support a bipartisan resolution to release all the files related to the late convicted sex offender. On Tuesday, 33-thousand pages and several videos related to Epstein were made public by the US House of Representatives’ Oversight Committee. Most of the files, however, were already in the public domain. Speaking on the steps of the US Capitol, survivor Lisa Phillips said they have begun compiling a confidential list of Epstein associates who they say were involved in abuse:
# Rugby: Springbok coach Rassie Erasmus has named Jesse Kriel as captain for Saturday’s Rugby Championship clash against New Zealand, with Siya Kolisi at number 8. Eben Etzebeth returns to the starting line-up for his 136th Test, alongside Ruan Nortjé at lock. Pieter-Steph du Toit is back at flanker. The only change in the backline is at fullback, where Willie le Roux will start his 101st Test. Ethan Hooker joins the replacements alongside Kwagga Smith and Cobus Reinach in a five-three split on the bench.

# And finally: The award-winning South African feature film Carissa will now be released in cinemas nationwide. The film, directed by Jason Jacobs and Devon Delmar, had its world premiere at the Venice Film Festival last year. It tells the story of a young woman, played by Gretchen Ramsden, and her community in the heart of the Western Cape’s Cederberg Mountains. Carissa has also been screened at the Santa Barbara International Film Festival in California and the BlackStar Film Festival in Philadelphia. It won several awards in Venice.
