# Mayibuye Afrika movement national convenor, Floyd Shivambu, says the outcomes of the 2024 general elections show that political parties failed to capture the hearts of the majority of citizens. The movement’s consultation process to discuss the potential formation of a new political party wrapped up in KwaZulu-Natal on Sunday. Former MK Party secretary-general and EFF deputy president Shivambu says the movement is not a breakaway of the MK Party or the EFF, it’s an organisation that exists by itself:
# The Referendum Party says president Cyril Ramaphosa is refusing to recognise that ANC rule and policies are continuing to crippled the economy. Referendum Party leader Phil Craig says poverty persists and inequality remains crises that are not accidents, but the inevitable result of policies that have crippled the economy, hollowed out state capacity, and entrenched corruption:
# Major cryptocurrency platform Luno is calling on the government to amend Board Notice 90, to permit Collective Investment Schemes to invest a percentage of their asset allocation into crypto assets, like Bitcoin. This follows a recent response to questions in Parliament by the Minister of Finance, Enoch Godongwana, who stated that crypto assets are still viewed as risky investments. Luno general manager for Africa and Europe, Marius Reitz, says this view is contrary to the growing institutional acceptance of cryptocurrencies seen internationally. He contends ordinary investors can benefit from the future of digital finance and grow their wealth.
# A six-year-old Grade R girl learner from Letsatsing Primary Mine School in Carletonville died in a freak scholar bus accident on Friday. The learner allegedly sustained serious injuries from a school transport bus while she was boarding the bus to go to school. The department’s spokesperson, Steve Mabona, says the child was rushed to Carletonville Hospital for medical attention:
# European leaders will join Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelensky in a meeting with US president Donald Trump at the White House today. The leaders include French president, Emmanuel Macron, British prime minister, Keir Starmer, and European Commission president, Ursula von der Leyen. The talks will address, among other things, security guarantees, territorial issues, and continued support for Ukraine in its defence against Russian aggression. The meeting comes after Trump failed to reach a peace deal during a meeting with Russian president Vladimir Putin in Alaska on Friday.
# Golf: South Africa’s Herman Loubser captured his second Sunshine Tour title by winning the Origins of Golf in the Free State. He beat compatriot Yurav Premlall on the first hole of a sudden-death playoff. The pair finished regulation play tied for the lead on eight-under-par after their respective final rounds of 69 and 72. South Africans Pieter Moolman, George Coetzee, and England’s Joe Long finished joint third on six-under-par. Loubser says he is happy with his performance:
