# SANParks says its annual National Parks Week has proven to be a successful campaign that provides education and awareness about the country’s inclusive approach to conservation. SANParks will again offer free access to most of the 21 national parks under its management next month. It says it will also use this time to cultivate a sense of pride in the country’s natural, cultural and historical heritage as protected and preserved by the national parks system.
# The City of Cape Town’s Recreation and Parks Department will once again allow flowers to bloom ahead of spring by halting mowing at parks and public open spaces. Cape Town is widely recognised as being the most biodiverse city in the world. Mayoral committee member for Community Services and Health, Francine Higham, says the metro is located within the Cape Floral Kingdom, an area rich in plants and wildlife, a signature characteristic of the Fynbos Biome:
# And finally: Blue ammonia and sustainable chemicals producer SUISO says it is committed to land rehabilitation, biodiversity restoration and sustainable practices. Two Chinese engineering companies have made the final round of bidding to build a 31.5-billion-rand coal-to-fertiliser industrial complex in Kriel, Mpumalanga, for SUISO. The plant will sustainably produce 1.5-million tons of nitrogen-based fertilisers a year from coal, while simultaneously supporting the country’s just energy transition goals. SUISO founder Paul Erskine says they will integrate advanced carbon capture technology into the plant.
