# Sakeliga has warned it will seek personal cost orders against president Cyril Ramaphosa and his ministers if they fail to act on Ditsobotla Municipality in North West’s collapse. CEO Piet le Roux says the national executive ignored constitutional duties despite pleas from MEC for Cooperative Governance, Oageng Molapisi. Essential services like water and electricity have collapsed. Le Roux says Ramaphosa has until Friday to intervene or face punitive court action:
# Tshwane Metro Police Chief, Yolande Faro, is accused of not declaring a large cash gift. Faro and her team of senior officials were invited to a festival at the Sun City Resort in the North West in February, accompanied by their partners. They were allegedly given money estimated to be around 450-thousand-rand. There is no confirmation whether the money was declared. The metro’s spokesperson, Lindela Mashigo, says an internal review process is currently underway, adding that they are committed to ensuring full accountability and transparency.
# The National E-Hailing Federation is calling for urgent government intervention to accelerate e-hailing regulations and empower drivers. The federation is currently engaged in dialogue with the relevant stakeholders to develop a national empowerment framework for e-hailing drivers. The federation’s secretary-general, Omar Parker, says 91-percent of operators and drivers are unregistered with statutory labour entities such as the Unemployment Insurance Fund and the Compensation Fund:
# Rugby: Springbok coach Rassie Erasmus is confident his team has done their homework fo the Wallabies’ Rugby Championship tour of South Africa. This follows an intense two-week training and conditioning camp in Johannesburg. The Boks will face the Wallabies at Ellis Park this Saturday and a week later in Cape Town. Erasmus stresses the importance of their preparation to match the competitiveness of the Wallabies, the All Blacks and the Pumas, but is pleased with the work the players put in.
# The financial indicators: The dollar trades at 17-rand-71-cents and the euro at 20-rand-63-cents. One British pound costs 23-rand-83-cents and Bitcoin trades at 121-thousand-325-dollars. Gold sells at three-thousand-360-dollars-64-cents a fine ounce and Brent crude oil is quoted at 66-dollars-23-cents a barrel.
# And finally: South African director Ryan Kruger’s outrageous sci-fi horror comedy Street Trash is now in local cinemas. A loose sequel to the 1987 cult classic by the same name, the movie is set in dystopian Cape Town, 2050, where homeless misfits uncover a plot to liquify the poor with a mysterious chemical known only as “V.” The film has wowed global festival audiences, including in the Netherlands, Germany and Switzerland. The film features an all-South African cast including Sean Cameron Michael, Donna Cormack-Thomson, and Alex Joe Vaz.
