# President Cyril Ramaphosa says the National Dialogue will proceed on 15 August, despite divisions within the Preparatory Task Team. Six Foundations, including the Thabo Mbeki and FW de Klerk Foundations, wanted it postponed to October. Ramaphosa says the gathering is crucial for inclusive discussions on national challenges. The Presidency spokesperson Vincent Magwenya says the Eminent Persons Group reaffirmed support, urging credibility and inclusivity:
# Gauteng police have deployed maximum resources to track down Jabulani Moyo, who shot and killed two detectives in Roodepoort on Friday. Moyo is said to be armed with a stolen police firearm. The attack comes weeks before SAPS Commemoration Day to honour fallen officers. Police spokesperson Athlenda Mathe says a multidisciplinary team, including the Hawks, are investigating the incident. She has urged the public not to harbour Moyo. The police have offered a reward of 150 thousand rand:
Meanwhile, the police in Mpumalanga are hunting ten suspects linked to the fatal shooting of Sergeant Lawrence Mtshweni, who was responding to a business robbery in Schoemansdal. Mtshweni later died in hospital. His killing follows Friday’s murders of two detectives in Roodepoort.
# Gauteng premier Panyaza Lesufi has appointed Roche Mogorosi as Acting Head of Department for Community Safety following the suspension of former HOD Nontsikelelo Sisulu and the Chief Financial Officer, Mduduzi Malope. The suspensions came after a forensic audit revealed financial irregularities. Lesufi confirmed that Mogorosi, previously served as Chief Director at the Department of Education, will ensure leadership continuity as Gauteng works to restore public trust while improving community safety.
# President Volodymir Zelensky says Ukraine will not gift their land to occupiers. This comes as US president Donald Trump and his Russian counterpart, Vladimir Putin, are planning to meet on 15th August for peace talks. Zelensky said in a video address to the nation that the two leaders will not achieve anything. He said genuine peace will not be possible without Ukraine’s involvement. Putin claims four Ukrainian regions – Luhansk, Donetsk, Zaporizhzhia, and Kherson – as well as the Black Sea peninsula of Crimea, which he annexed in 2014.
# Rugby: The Pumas secured an emphatic victory over the Blue Bulls, winning 41-7 in their Currie Cup encounter at Loftus Versfeld yesterday. The Pumas outscored the hosts by six tries to one to put an end to the Bulls’ winning streak and move to the top of the log. And in Durban, the Cheetahs edged out the luckless Sharks with a hard-fought 7-5 win – the third consecutive defeat for the Durbanites. The Cheetahs scored a try and conversion in the first half while the Sharks could only score a try in the second half.
