# The Patriotic Alliance has filed criminal charges against Open Chat Podcast hosts, Mthokozisi Methula and Sinothando Kama. They made disparaging comments about the coloured community in an episode posted on their social media, which went viral. The hosts have since apologised for the remarks and removed the discussion from the episode. PA leader Gayton McKenzie says they will also institute proceedings in the Equality Court for unlawful discrimination:
Meanwhile, the GOOD Party says the painful truth is that three decades into democracy, South Africa remains a society divided along racial and ethnic lines. GOOD’s secretary general, Brett Herron, says making offensive and racially charged remarks about the coloured community is not only egregious, but also deeply offensive:
# Ten Ekurhuleni Metro Police Department and South African Police Service officials arrested on corruption and theft allegations have been granted one-thousand-500-rand bail. They appeared in the Germiston Magistrate’s Court. National Prosecuting Authority’s spokesperson, Phindi Mjonondwane, says the group allegedly took 35-thousand-rand from a store in the East Rand during a raid in June:
# Tennis: American Ben Shelton will face Russia’s Karen Khachanov in the Canadian Open final in Toronto. Shelton defeated compatriot Taylor Fritz to reach his maiden ATP-one-thousand final. Khachanov recorded a three-sets victory over top-seeded Alexander Zverev of Germany. In the women’s draw in Montreal, four-time Grand Slam champion Naomi Osaka defeated Denmark’s Clara Tauson in straight sets to reach her first WTA-one-thousand final since 2022. The Japanese will face Canadian teenager Victoria Mboko, who stunned Kazakhstan’s Elena Rybakina.
# The financial indicators: The dollar trades at 17-rand-71-cents and the euro at 20-rand-68-cents. One British pound costs 23-rand-67-cents and Bitcoin trades at 115-thousand-75-dollars. Gold sells at three-thousand-373-dollars-56-cents a fine ounce and Brent crude oil is quoted at 66-dollars-78-cents a barrel.
