# ANC secretary-general Fikile Mbalula says Africa’s liberation movements embody the wisdom of the ages, forged through armed struggle, diplomacy, and political mobilisation. Speaking at the Liberation Movement Summit in Johannesburg, Mbalula emphasised that true freedom was not only won with weapons but through unity, vision, and belief in justice. He emphasised the unyielding spirit of oppressed communities that shaped this wisdom, which continues to guide the path toward lasting liberation and transformation:
# EFF leader Julius Malema has voiced strong support for KwaZulu-Natal Police Commissioner, Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi, urging him to stand firm amid pressure. Speaking at the party’s 12th anniversary rally in Khayelitsha, Malema praised Mkhwanazi’s courage in exposing high-level corruption, including allegations against deputy commissioner, Shadrack Sibiya, and Police minister, Senzo Mchunu. Malema warned that if Mkhwanazi is fired when his contract ends, he is welcome to join the EFF:
# Western Cape police are pursuing new leads in the search for Joslin Smith, who vanished from Saldanha Bay in February 2024. Since Friday, K-9 units have combed the Middelpos informal settlement. Joshlin’s mother, Kelly, along with co-accused Steveno van Rhyn and Jacquen Appollis, are serving life sentences, with an appeal set for 12–13 August. Police say the case remains open and urged the public to give search teams space as investigations continue.
# The DA in Gauteng is calling for urgent intervention to stop illegal street racing in suburbs like Rosebank, Fourways, and Midrand. DA’s Michael Sun says reckless racing is endangering innocent lives, citing recent deadly incidents, including a crash on Jan Smuts Avenue that killed an Uber driver. # The intelligence units of SAPS and Lesotho Police are investigating claims of Lesotho military camps operating in South Africa.
