In this bulletin:
# The Western Cape police hunt for suspects following a triple murder
# Solidarity confirms that the FlySafair pilot strike talks are stalling
# And the conflict between Thailand and Cambodia continues
# Western Cape detectives are investigating three murders and one attempted murder after a deadly shooting in Philippi East early yesterday morning. At around 2 am, two suspects impersonating police officers entered a home on Hankomo Street and opened fire. Two men aged 19 and 20, and a 20-year-old woman died at the scene. A 26-year-old woman was wounded and is receiving treatment. Police call for public assistance to find the perpetrators. The motive is still unknown.
# The GOOD Party says Kenny Kunene’s resignation as Johannesburg Transport mayoral committee member and councillor is a responsible step amid political challenges. GOOD’s Matthew Cook says while resignation is not an admission of guilt, the party commends his maturity and urges the focus now shift to urgent service delivery needs. He stressed reinforcing ethical standards and accountability in public office, amid ongoing investigations and public trust concerns:
# Solidarity’s Gideon du Plessis says negotiations with FlySafair could have reached a deal on Friday. Du Plessis says a final offer e-mailed yesterday failed to resolve key pilot concerns like guaranteed rest and predictable rosters. De Plessis says misleading pay claims also worsened tensions. He warns that the union will call on the CCMA again by tomorrow to find a fair solution for safe and humane scheduling if members reject the offer:
# Water and Sanitation minister Pemmy Majodina has raised concerns over a seven-year timeline to complete the 2.7-billion-rand Sol Plaatje bulk water intervention project. During an oversight visit, she assured residents that relief is on the horizon as there is progress in the process. She plans to lobby the National Treasury to fast-track funding, to improve supply in the Northern Cape’s capital:
# Cambodia and Thailand each said the other had launched artillery attacks across contested border areas early this morning, hours after U.S. president Donald Trump said the leaders of both countries had agreed to work on a ceasefire. Cambodia said it fully endorsed Trump’s call for an immediate ceasefire. Thailand said while it was grateful to the U.S. president, it could not begin talks while Cambodia was targeting its civilians, a claim that Phnom Penh has denied.
# And motorsport: Lando Norris of McLaren will start the Belgian Grand Prix from pole position after going fastest of all in the Qualifying rounds. The Brit beat teammate Oscar Piastri and Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc with an impressive lap around Spa-Francorchamps. Leclerc managed to put himself ahead in the final lap of the Red Bull car of Max Verstappen in fourth. Alex Albon was an impressive fifth for Williams, slotting in just ahead of Mercedes’ George Russell in sixth. Meanwhile, Lewis Hamilton described his qualifying result as “unacceptable” after finishing 16th.
