# Deputy Minister of Electricity and Energy, Samantha Graham-Maré, announced that over seven-thousand buildings have registered for an Energy Performance Certificate ahead of the December deadline. Since December 2020, three-thousand-884 certificates have been issued, with Gauteng leading at one-thousand-689. Under the National Energy Act, state-owned buildings over one thousand square meters and commercial buildings over two thousand square meters must display the certificates. Graham-Maré encourages owners of large building to register, aiming for a target of 60-thousand:
# Seriti Resources CEO, Mike Teke, says transition from coal to a broader energy business reflects Africa’s need for a strong energy base. Speaking to Mining Weekly at the Coal and Energy Transition Day in Johannesburg, Teke highlighted investments in Seriti Green, and new coal operations like Nodiers Bank in Carolina. He stressed a balanced approach, committing to environmental, social, and governance goals while maintaining coal output for the next 20 years:
# And the International Court of Justice has ruled that states have a legal duty to act on climate change and that inaction violates human rights. This includes the obligation under the Paris Agreement on climate change to limit global warming to 1.5 degrees Celsius above pre-industrial levels. The court also ruled that developing nations have a right to seek damages for the impacts of climate change. United Nations secretary general, António Guterres has welcomed this judgment:
