# President Cyril Ramaphosa says statements made by KwaZulu-Natal police commissioner, Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi, are of grave national security concern, and are receiving the highest priority attention. During a media briefing on Sunday, Mkhwanazi accused Police minister Senzo Mchunu of interfering in investigations and having ulterior motives in disbanding the political killings task team. Ramaphosa says it is vital that the integrity of the country’s security services is safeguarded. He adds that he will outline the actions to be taken on this matter when he returns from Brazil.
Meanwhile the EFF is calling for the immediate suspension of the Police minister and deputy National Commissioner for Crime Detection, Shadrack Siblya. The EFF’s spokesperson, Sinawo Thambo, says Parliament’s portfolio committee on Police chairperson, Ian Cameron, must convene an urgent sitting for a briefing from minister Mchunu regarding allegations raised by Mkhwanazi:
# Minister of Health, Aaron Motsoaledi, will officially receive an investigation report on the findings of the inquiry conducted by the Section 59 Investigation Panel. The panel looked into allegations of racial discrimination by medical schemes against black health care providers in the country. The department’s spokesperson, Foster Mohale, says that in May 2019, members of the National Health Care Professionals Association and Solutionist Thinkers alleged that they were being discriminated against by medical schemes and their claims were being withheld based on their race:
# Israeli prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu says his meeting with US president Donald Trump in Washington today should help progress efforts to reach a deal for the release of more hostages and a ceasefire in Gaza. This comes after the latest round of ceasefire talks in Doha on Sunday failed. Netanyahu says as of today, they have freed 205 out of 255 hostages, 148 among them alive. Twenty living and 30 deceased hostages are left. He adds that they are determined to ensure that Gaza no longer poses a threat to Israel.
# Cricket: India defeated England by 336 runs in the second Test at Edgbaston to level the five-match series one-all. Set a mammoth 608 runs to win, the hosts were dismissed for 271 before tea on the fifth and final day. India’s Akash Deep was impressive with the ball throughout the Test match as he completed a ten-wicket match haul. The third Test at Lord’s starts on Thursday. England captain Ben Stokes says the Edgbaston pitch didn’t suit his side:
