# ANC secretary-general Fikile Mbalula says they viewed the DA’s threat of not participating in the National Dialogue and not supporting key budget votes in Parliament in a serious light. Mbalula says president Cyril Ramaphosa cancelled his planned international trip to Spain after an expected announcement by the DA over the weekend. He says tensions between the ANC and the DA escalated after Ramaphosa axed the deputy minister of Trade, Industry and Competition, Andrew Whitfield:
# The GOOD Party has welcomed the release of 47 finalised forensic investigation reports by Gauteng premier Panyaza Lesufi as part of Gauteng’s anti-corruption drive. The party says it includes cases dating back to 2016 and is a welcome step toward transparency and accountability in the province. GOOD chairperson, Matthew Cook, says they are urging Lesufi and the provincial government to ensure every single recommendation in these reports is implemented:
# Cape Town has approved four major informal trading plans, creating nearly 800 new trading opportunities across the city. Key areas include the Mamre, Pella, Elsies River, 416 bays at Grand Parade, and 265 bays in Gatesville. Mayoral committee member for Economic Growth, James Vos, says the initiative aims to improve infrastructure, support unpermitted traders, and boost economic activity. He says that the move is part of the City’s broader effort to strengthen local economies and support community development.
# A heatwave continues to grip large parts of Europe, with authorities in many countries issuing health warnings. Southern Spain is the worst-affected region, with a new heat record for June of 46 degrees set on Saturday in the town of El Granado. According to Spain’s national weather service, this month is also on track to be the hottest June on record. Red heat warnings are in force in parts of Portugal, Italy, and Croatia, with numerous amber warnings covering areas in the rest of Europe.
# Rugby: The Junior Springboks scored 11 tries on Sunday in their Pool A opener against Australia in the World Rugby U20 Championship. Coach Kevin Foote praised his team’s 73-17 victory after they outplayed Australia for large parts of the game, which was staged in tough conditions. Captain Riley Norton said it was a great win against a quality Australian side, but they now have their eyes set on Friday’s match against England, who opened their campaign by beating Scotland 56-19. The match is scheduled to start at 6 pm in Rovigo.
# And the financial indicators: The dollar trades at 17-rand-78-cents and the euro at 20-rand-84-cents. One British pound costs 24-rand-39-cents and Bitcoin trades at 108-thousand-494-dollars. Gold sells at three-thousand-278-dollars-30-cents a fine ounce and Brent crude oil is quoted at 66-dollars-47-cents a barrel.
