Good morning. I am……..
In this bulletin:
# The US Defence Secretary says the US devastated Iran’s nuclear programme
# Floyd Shivambu says there is an appetite for another political option
# And rugby: The Springbok Sevens ‘A’ team is crowned African champions
# US Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth says they managed to obliterate Iran’s nuclear ambitions. The Iranian Atomic Energy Organisation says the bombing of the nuclear sites by America was a barbaric violation of international law. Hegseth says many presidents have dreamed of delivering the final blow to Iran’s nuclear programme, and none could until president Donald Trump:
Meanwhile, president Cyril Ramaphosa says South Africa is anxious about the entry by the US into the Israel-Iran war. The American operation involved 125 US military aircraft, including seven B-2 stealth bombers. Ramaphosa’s spokesperson, Vincent Magwenya, says South Africa hoped that president Donald Trump would use his influence to prevail on the parties to pursue a dialogue path in resolving their issues of dispute:
And the MK Party has unequivocally condemned what is calls “the reckless and unlawful” United States military attack on the Islamic Republic of Iran’s nuclear facilities. The party says this blatant act of aggression, executed without United Nations authorisation, constitutes a direct violation of international law, sovereignty, and the foundational principles of peace, self-determination, and non-intervention. The MK Party called on the international community, especially the African Union, BRICS nations, and the Non-Aligned Movement, to reject this new cycle of militarism and unilateral attacks on sovereign nations.
# Former MK Party secretary-general Floyd Shivambu says he has received a positive response from South Africans, who have shown interest in establishing a new political movement in the country. Last Thursday, he announced that he would consult various communities and groups over the coming months to gauge whether he should launch his own political party. Shivambu says from the response received, the appetite for another political option is strong, adding that he would be widening the consultative process.
# The DA in Gauteng says it rejects the Department of Social Development’s plan to centralise food bank operations by transferring food parcel distribution from 288 non-profit organisations and the five regional food banks to a central food bank. The DA’s Refiloe Nt’sekhe says the plan to establish a centrally located food bank comes as the department cites the high two-million-rand monthly rent cost for maintaining the existing food banks:
# Rugby: The Springbok Sevens ‘A’ team are the Rugby Africa Sevens champions following a commanding 26-12 victory against Madagascar in the final in Mauritius. South Africa swept Pool B with convincing victories over Burkina Faso, Zambia, and Nigeria. In the quarterfinals, they thrashed defending champions Uganda 26-0, before a hard-fought 19-12 win over Zimbabwe to book their place in the final. Blitzbok coach Philip Snyman says he is happy with the way the players applied themselves and executed their duties:
# And the financial indicators: The dollar trades at 18-rand-6-cents and the euro at 20-rand-77-cents. One British pound costs 24-rand-26-cents and Bitcoin trades at 100-thousand-895-dollar. Gold sells at three-thousand-374-dollars-38-cents a fine ounce and Brent crude oil is quoted at 75-dollars-67-cents a barrel.
