# KwaZulu-Natal residents are being urged to stay safe as damaging winds, heavy storms, and snow hit the province. A level four alert has been issued for damaging winds and waves along the coastline, while a level two alert is in place for severe thunderstorms inland. The provincial disaster management centre is on high alert. Department of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs spokesperson Senzelwe Mzila says snow and icy roads have already been reported around Kokstad:
# Staying in KwaZulu-Natal: Police are currently investigating the circumstances around the disappearance of a Comrades runner who was reported missing after the race. Moira Harding, from Cape Town, finished the 98th Comrades Marathon, but disappeared. Police spokesperson, Robert Netshiunda says the woman was found this morning after an intensive search by police’s Search and Rescue officers, working with other law enforcement and private entities:
# The government has begun an interactive nationwide roadshow to roll out the 500-million-rand Spaza Shop Support Fund. Johannesburg Economic Development director Benji Seitlhamo says six-million-rand has already been disbursed to participating spaza shops across the country. He says the sessions aim to guide shop owners on accessing grants and low-interest loans to formalise and grow their businesses:
# Moving to the US: About 60 people were arrested in San Francisco after demonstrators gathered in the northern Californian city to protest against president Donald Trump’s immigration raids. Police declared an unlawful assembly before the arrests were made. The protest comes in the wake of demonstrations triggered in downtown Los Angeles by immigration raids that have resulted in dozens of arrests of what authorities say are illegal migrants and gang members.
# Tennis: The top of the men’s world rankings has seen quite a change after the French Open. Champion Carlos Alcaraz of Spain remains in second behind losing finalist Jannik Sinner of Italy, with German Alexander Zverev still in third. Jack Draper of Britain improved to fourth, followed by Novak Djokovic of Serbia and Italian Lorenzo Musetti. American Taylor Fritz dropped down three places to seventh, compatriot Tommy Paul improved four to eighth, while Holger Rune of Denmark and Australian Alex de Minaur complete the top ten.
# And the financial indicators: The dollar trades at 17-rand-71-cents and the euro at 20-rand-22-cents. One British pound costs 24-rand-1-cent and Bitcoin trades at 107-thousand-550-dollars. Gold sells at three-thousand-318-dollars-17-cents a fine ounce and Brent crude oil is quoted at 66-dollars-43-cents a barrel.
