# Shamila Batohi says the National Prosecuting Authority is not in a crisis
# The Road Freight Association says the AARTO rollout is not imminent
# And rugby: SA Rugby confirms the coaches for the SA Schools and SA Schools ‘A’ teams
# National Director of Public Prosecutions advocate Shamila Batohi has refuted claims that the National Prosecuting Authority is in crisis and is failing. Her tenure has been marked by high-profile missteps, ranging from the bungled prosecutions of the Gupta brothers, Matshela Koko and Timothy Omotoso to the handling of allegations against Moroadi Cholota. Batohi told Newzroom Afrika that in a country where the crime rate is very high, people are looking for someone to blame, and the NPA is an easy target:
# The Road Freight Association says it is highly improbable that Administrative Adjudication of Road Traffic Offences will be rolled out from midnight. This is despite rumours circulating on some social media. The association’s CEO, Gavin Kelly, says the Road Traffic Infringement Agency, in its last communiqué, said that AARTO would be rolled out in October. He adds that they wrote comprehensive feedback to both the Transport Department and the RTIA in 2019 on the then-proposed regulations, but have not received any reply:
# The GOOD Party is calling on the Judicial Service Commission to urgently review the racially charged remarks made by Judge Ratha Mokgoatlheng, who is presiding over the high-profile Senzo Meyiwa murder trial. During a live broadcast, he used racially divisive language in voicing his frustration with defence advocate Charles Mnisi, who had asked to be excused from court on Monday because he was participating in Sunday’s Comrades Marathon. GOOD’s secretary general, Brett Herron, says the judge’s comments undermined judicial integrity:
# Tech billionaire Elon Musk stepped up his feud with US president Donald Trump in a flurry of posts on X, including calling for his impeachment. He claimed that without him, Trump would have lost the elections. Musk also suggested, without evidence, that Trump appears in unreleased files related to the late sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, saying the truth will come out. Trump hit back on Truth Social, threatening to cut government contracts with Musk’s companies. This public spat saw Tesla shares drop by about 14.2-percent on Thursday.
# Rugby: Lwazi Zangqa from Border has been named as the new head coach of the SA Schools side, and he will be assisted by the Bulls’ Cobus van Dyk. The SA Schools ‘A’ team will be coached by Flash Malinga of KwaZulu-Natal, with Clinton van Rensburg of Western Province named as his assistant. Zangqa from Hudson Park High School was SA Schools assistant coach last year, while Van Dyk from Hoërskool Waterkloof was one of the specialist coaches for both the SA Schools and SA Schools ‘A’ teams in 2023 and 2024.
# And the financial indicators: The dollar trades at 17-rand-73-cents and the euro at 20-rand-28-cents. One British pound costs 24-rand-6-cents and Bitcoin trades at 102-thousand-529-dollars. Gold sells at three-thousand-372-dollars-26-cents a fine ounce and Brent crude oil is quoted at 64-dollars-94-cents a barrel.
