# The City of Johannesburg has launched the Joburg Bomb Squad, a new team aimed at tackling crime, enforcing by-laws, and improving service delivery. The team will be led by president of the ANC Veterans’ League, Snuki Zikalala and includes former city managers Blake Mosley-Lefatole, Mavela Dlamini and Trevor Fowler. Mayor Dada Morero said the squad will focus on issues like illegal dumping, potholes, and land invasions, starting in Kliptown, home of the historic Freedom Charter:
# The Black Business Council is hosting its Annual Summit, bringing together key government ministers and business leaders to discuss fostering inclusive growth and addressing challenges facing black businesses. President Elias Monage emphasised the two-day summit’s aim to look into socio-economic transformation supporting women, youth, and black owned business funding, as well as the government’s commitment to economic inclusivity:
# Build One South Africa has launched a petition calling for the resignation of minister Stella Ndabeni-Abrahams, citing her failed leadership amid soaring youth unemployment. BOSA accuses the minister of neglecting the Small, Medium and Micro Enterprises sector, with 4.7 million young people not in employment, education, or training. Bosa spokesperson Roger Solomons says they also reject the current Ombud appointment process, calling it politically compromised. He urges urgent reforms to support young entrepreneurs and unlock job-creating opportunities across South Africa.
# President Donald Trump ramped up his campaign against top US universities, banning visas for foreign students coming to Harvard and threatening to strip Columbia of its academic accreditation. Trump claims their international students pose a national security threat, and that they ignored anti-Semitism on campus and perpetuate liberal bias. A proclamation issued by the White House today declared that the entrance of international students to begin a course at Harvard would be “suspended and limited” for six months and that existing overseas enrollees could have their visas terminated.
# Rugby: Springbok and Stormers utility back Sacha Feinberg-Mngomezulu added another significant accolade to his SA Rugby Young Player of the Year award by being crowned SA’s United Rugby Championship Player of the Season. Cameron Hanekom was named as Next-Gen Player of the Season. The prestigious award was voted for by members of the media across all five URC nations. Feinberg-Mngomezulu and Hanekom have also been included in the season’s Elite XV. Joining them are Wilco Louw, André Esterhuizen, Jan-Hendrik Wessels, RG Snyman and Marnus van der Merwe.
# And the financial indicators: The dollar trades at 17-rand-71-cents and the euro at 20-rand-34-cents. One British pound costs 24-rand-10-cents and Bitcoin trades at 105-thousand-738-dollars. Gold sells at three-thousand-379-dollars-50-cents a fine ounce and Brent crude oil is quoted at 65-dollars-49-cents a barrel.
