# The EFF in Gauteng condemns th killing of IFP MP Khethamabala Sithole

# The EFF in Gauteng has condemned the assassination of IFP deputy chief whip, Khethamabala “KP” Sithole, calling it a senseless act of violence. The party extended condolences to the Inkatha Freedom Party and Sithole’s family, praising his years of public service. IFP provincial secretary, Alco Ngobese, was also shot and injured in the attack that took place in Katlehong, Gauteng last night. The EFF urged police to act decisively against political killings and gun violence, and wished Ngobese a speedy recovery.
# Outgoing Hawks head, advocate Godfrey Lebeya is calling on government to provide financial resources for the Directorate Priority Crime Investigation to achieve 100-percent human resource capacity. Lebeya says since he commenced with his tenure in 2018, they arrested more than 19-thousand suspects for various offences and secured convictions of more than five-thousand perpetrators. Lebeya says they also seized goods worth more than 15-billion-rand and secured one-thousand-118 freezing and forfeiture orders worth 3.2-billion-rand:
Meanwhile, the Institute for Security Studies’ Willem Els has hailed Godfrey Lebeya, the Lebeya as a remarkable man of integrity. Lebeya officially retired yesterday, urging his successor to prioritise full staffing and modern tools to boost the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigations. Els says told the SABC News that Lebeya will be remembered for his legacy of discipline and commitment fighting serious crimes:
# At least seven people have died after a highway bridge collapsed on to railway tracks in Russia close to the Ukraine border. The bridge in Bryansk brought down several heavy trucks on to a moving passenger train as it collapsed late last night, with 31 people also reportedly injured. The Russian Emergencies Ministry said fire and rescue units were attempting to find people who had been travelling on the train. In a statement posted to Telegram, Moscow Railway alleged the bridge had collapsed as a result of illegal interference in transport operations.
# Soccer: Mamelodi Sundowns take on Pyramids FC in Cairo tonight at 8pm for the decisive second leg of the CAF Champions League final. After a 1-all draw in the first leg, Sundowns must win or secure a 2-2 draw or more to lift the title. Coach Steve Komphela says the team has the quality but must approach the tough final with courage and respect:
# And finally, Motorsport: McLaren have sealed a front-row lockout with Oscar Piastri beating his team-mate Lando Norris to pole position for the Spanish Grand Prix this afternoon. Norris was 0.2 seconds off Piastri’s time, but still confined Max Verstappen to the second row. George Russell is fourth and Lewis Hamilton is fifth. Piastri, who leads Norris by three points in the world championship, trailed Norris after the first laps in the final part of qualifying but produced a superb lap to take his fourth pole of the season.
