# Life sentences for the three people convicted in the Joslin Smith case

# Kelly Smith, Jacquen Appollis, and Steveno van Rhyn have each been sentenced to life in prison over the disappearance of Smith’s young daughter, Joslin, on the Cape West Coast in February last year. The trial ended in the Western Cape High Court sitting in Saldanha Bay this morning. Judge Nathan Erasmus noted systemic failures in supporting Smith, but stressed that justice must protect the vulnerable. He also stated that drug use is no excuse for such crimes:
# Gauteng police have confirmed that three suspects are now wanted in connection with the murder of Olorato Mongale. The 30-year-old’s body was found dumped in Lombardy West, Johannesburg, after going on a date on Sunday. The car which was allegedly used in the murder, was found at a panel-beater workshop in Durban. National police spokesperson Athlenda Mathe says the third suspect, Bongani Mthimkhulu, is a friend of Philangenkosi Makhanya, who is also a wanted suspect together with Fezile Ngubane:
# The MK Party says it will not tolerate the erosion of South Africa’s legal framework by foreign profiteers or their local enablers. Communications regulator, Icasa, has launched an investigation into allegations that Elon Musk’s Starlink internet-satellite service is operating in the country illegally. Spokesperson Nhlamulo Ndhlela says it has uncovered that the unlawful connectivity operations of Starlink are currently being conducted through a shadow entity called “ICASAsePUSH”:
# Motorsport: Italian rider Luca Marini will likely miss next weekend’s MotoGP race in Aragon, Spain, after crashing during testing in Japan. The Honda Factory Racing rider suffered numerous injuries, including a dislocated left hip, multiple fractures and a collapsed lung. Honda says Marini will remain under observation in a hospital in Japan until he is fit enough to travel home. He currently sits 13th in the riders’ standings on 38 points.
# The financial indicators: The dollar trades at 17-rand-90-cents and the euro at 20-rand-18-cents. One British pound costs 24-rand-10-cents and Bitcoin trades at 108-thousand-506-dollars. Gold sells at three-thousand-276-dollars-95-cents a fine ounce and Brent crude oil is quoted at 64-dollars-97-cents a barrel.

The metro ranks with Abu Dhabi, known for its 200 parks and beaches, and Chicago, which boasts over 600 parks and a long-standing commitment to urban greenery. The poll, based on over 18-thousand-500 votes, highlights Cape Town’s blend of urban life and outdoor beauty. Locals and visitors alike say they enjoy spaces like the Company’s Garden and Table Mountain.
