# The Appeal Court is hearing Cyril Ramaphosa’s appeal against a ruling that nullified King Misuzulu’s recognition
# The ANC’s chairperson in Tshwane’s former company is awarded 119-million-rand in tenders
# And soccer: Banyana Banyana’s Amogelang Motau says international friendlies are good preparations for WAFCON
# The Supreme Court of Appeal is today hearing president Cyril Ramaphosa’s challenge of a ruling of the High Court in Pretoria that declared his recognition of King Misuzulu kaZwelithini as Zulu monarch unlawful. The king was traditionally crowned at the Royal Palace in Nongoma in 2022. The ruling followed a legal challenge by Prince Simakade Zulu, who argued the nomination process was flawed. The court also ordered Ramaphosa to establish a committee to investigate the process.
# A company previously linked to ANC Tshwane chairperson, Eugene Modise, secured tenders totalling 119-million-rand from ANC-led municipalities. Modise claims to have resigned from Triotic Protection Services in 2019. The tenders, awarded between 2021 and last year, include contracts for waste collection and infrastructure upgrades. Opposition parties have raised concerns over potential conflicts of interest and called for transparency in the procurement processes. The ANC has not issued an official response to the allegations.
# The GOOD Party says the devolution of policing powers alone will not put an end to the bloodshed on the streets in the Western Cape. One-thousand-and-68 people were killed in the province between January and March, which is a four-percent drop from the same period last year. GOOD’s secretary general, Brett Herron, says the idea that devolution will fix gangsterism, without first fixing the poverty, unemployment, and apartheid spatial planning that gang culture feeds on, is dangerous political theatre:
# Soccer: Banyana Banyana midfielder, Amogelang Motau, says their participation in the three-nation series against Botswana and Zambia is good preparation for the upcoming Women’s Africa Cup of Nations. South Africa will host Botswana in the opening fixture at the Lucas Moripe Stadium in Pretoria this afternoon. Motau says they are working towards achieving a good blend between senior and junior players in these international friendlies:
# The financial indicators: The dollar trades at 17-rand-88-cents and the euro at 20-rand-27-cents. One British pound costs 24-rand-15-cents and Bitcoin trades at 108-thousand-766-dollars. Gold sells at three-thousand-322-dollars-52-cents a fine ounce and Brent crude oil is quoted at 63-dollars-86-cents a barrel.
# And finally: South African craft breweries dominated the 2025 African Beer Cup in Cape Town, winning dozens of medals. Nearly 260 brews from 14 countries were judged. Soul Barrel Brewing clinched the top award for best beer on the continent with its Wild African Soul, a sorghum-based beer made in collaboration with Tolokazi Beer. Richmond Hill Brewing Company also excelled, earning five medals from five entries. The winners were praised for highlighting South Africa’s leadership in African craft beer innovation.
