# The fake patient accused of snatching two babies from the Dora Nginza Hospital will b back in court end of May
# And, Donald Trump tells Britain to drill for oil rather than build ‘unsightly’ wind turbines
# The MK Party demands the immediate suspension of the regulations gazetted by the minister of Communications and Digital Technologies, Solly Malatsi, under the State Information Technology Agency Act. Spokesperson Nhlamulo Ndhlela says the party sees it as a blueprint designed to dismantle state capacity, bypass transformative procurement frameworks and fast-track backdoor deals with foreign oligarchs such as Elon Musk:
# Former African Union chairperson Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma has called on Africans to reclaim their narrative and drive the continent’s development. Speaking to Newzroom Afrika ahead of the Mother Africa dialogue on Africa Day, Dlamini-Zuma emphasised the importance of Africans telling their own stories to promote unity and progress. She highlighted the need for investment in education, infrastructure, and intra-African trade to harness Africa’s potential and ensure sustainable growth:
# A woman who allegedly posed as a patient to kidnap two newborns from Dora Nginza Hospital in the Eastern Cape is expected back in the New Brighton Magistrate’s Court on Friday. Sinovuyo Rabula, reportedly faked abdominal pain to gain access to the maternity ward before fleeing with the babies on Tuesday. Both infants were safely recovered. National Prosecuting Authority’s Luxolo Tyali says Rabula faces two counts of kidnapping and remains in custody ahead of her formal bail application.
# US President Donald Trump has urged Britain to drill for more oil rather than build wind turbines. Trump wrote on his Truth Social platform that he strongly recommends to them that in order to get their energy costs down, they stop with the costly and unsightly windmills, and incentivise modernised drilling in the North Sea, where large amounts of oil lay waiting to be taken. The United States has pivoted back towards fossil fuels, with Trump making energy policy a central part of his agenda since returning to office in January.
# Tennis: A new era dawns in Paris tomorrow when the French Open starts without 14-time champion Rafael Nadal for the first time since 2005. The king of clay has an amazing record at Roland Garros, winning 112 matches and only losing four – to Sweden’s Robin Soderling in 2009, Novak Djokovic of Serbia in 2015 and 2021, and to Germany’s Alexander Zverev in the first round last year. Thirty-eight-year-old Nadal, who retired late last year, will be honoured with a special ceremony tomorrow.
# And we end the bulleting with more tennis news from Roland Garros: The world’s top two men’s players, Jannik Sinner of Italy and Spaniard Carlos Alcaraz, both start their French Open campaigns in Paris tomorrow. Sinner will face local player Arthur Rinderknech in the first round, while defending champion Alcaraz will play former world number four, 35-year-old Kei Nishikori of Japan. Last year’s losing finalist, third-seeded German Alexander Zverev, faces American teenager Learner Tien. Twenty-four-time Grand Slam champion Novak Djokovic of Serbia, who won the tournament three times before, will come up against American Mackenzie McDonald.
