Good day, let’s look at the latest sports news and scores:
# We start with motorsport: Ferrari team boss Fred Vasseur says they need to improve their qualifying results heading into this weekend’s Monaco Grand Prix. So far this season, Charles Leclerc’s best qualifying result has been third on the grid and Lewis Hamilton fifth. In last weekend’s Emilia Romagna Grand Prix, both drivers were knocked out in qualifying two. Vasseur says what is clear is that over the last three or four races, they have had a much better race pace than in qualifying, which is frustrating.
# Rugby: Matt Sherratt has agreed to return as Wales’ interim head coach for the tour of Japan in July. His first job was to name a 33-player squad, featuring six uncapped players, for the two Tests. Sherratt selected Ospreys hooker Dewi Lake as captain in the absence of Jac Morgan, who is on tour with the British and Irish Lions in Australia. Cardiff boss Sherratt initially took charge for Wales’ last three Six Nations matches earlier this year after Warren Gatland stepped down.
More rugby news: Immanuel Feyi-Waboso will make his first appearance in an England squad since November as he steps up his recovery from a dislocated shoulder. He was included in England’s 33-man squad for a two-day training camp ahead of their summer fixtures. The 22-year-old Exeter winger has not played this year after surgery to repair an injury sustained during club duty in December. He could feature in Exeter’s final Premiership match of the season against Sale on 31 May.
# Soccer: Manchester City defeated Bournemouth 3-1 to close in on a place in the Champions League next season. Goals from Omar Marmoush, Bernardo Silva and Nico Gonzalez helped move Pep Guardiola’s men to third in the Premier League table. Dan Jebbison grabbed a late consolation, but the defeat ends Bournemouth’s hopes of qualifying for Europe next season. City have 68 points with one game remaining, two points above Newcastle United, Chelsea and Aston Villa, in the chase for a top-five finish and Champions League qualification.
# And finally, tennis: Former world number one Novak Djokovic is in no rush to get a new coach ahead of the French Open. The Serb parted ways with another former number one, Andy Murray, earlier this month after six months working together. The 24-time Grand Slam champion has taken a wildcard into the Geneva Open, where he will begin the pursuit of his 100th tour-level title against Hungarian Marton Fucsovics today. Djokovic says he couldn’t get more out of his partnership with Murray:
