# The FW de Klerk Foundation supports the GNU meeting with Trump
# The SA wine industry seeks talks with the US over export tariffs
# And Soccer: Bafana Bafana’s coach praises the Under-20 squad for their historic AFCON victory
# The FW de Klerk Foundation welcomes tomorrow’s meeting between president Cyril Ramaphosa and US president Donald Trump. The foundation says the talks should prioritise trade and strategic cooperation over local political disputes, as South Africa remains America’s largest African trading partner, with more than 600 US companies operating locally. The foundation also praised Ramaphosa’s international diplomacy and urged the government of national unity leaders to reject disinformation and focus on building a united, moderate coalition for South Africa’s future.
# The South African wine industry is calling for talks with the United States to address tariffs affecting wine exports. Wines of South Africa’s Maryna Calow says the US is a key market, with exports worth nearly 660-million-rand. She stressed to SABC News the urgency of the issue and highlights AGOA’s role in trade, as the US ranks fourth among SA’s largest wine export destinations:
# The Gauteng Department of Education has condemned the assault of learners at Soshanguve South Secondary School by community members allegedly angry over late-coming. The incident occurred yesterday, when the group reportedly overpowered scholar patrols, entered the school premises, and physically attacked the learners. The department’s Steve Mabona says while late-coming is a concern, violence and intimidation against children and education officials are completely unacceptable:
# Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelensky accused Russia of delaying peace talks in a bid to press on with its three-year invasion, even as US president Donald Trump pushes for an immediate ceasefire. Trump on Monday spoke by phone with Zelensky and Russian leader Vladimir Putin, while Russian and Ukrainian officials met in Istanbul Friday for their first direct talks on the conflict in more than three years. But they failed to yield a truce, and Zelensky accused Putin of sending “empty heads” to the negotiating table.
# Soccer: Bafana Bafana coach Hugo Broos has commended South Africa’s Under-20 coach, Raymond Mdaka, for his tactical brilliance and ability to motivate the team during their victorious Africa Cup of Nations campaign. On Sunday, Amajita defeated Morocco 1-0 in Cairo, Egypt, to claim their first AFCON title. Broos urged the team to remain focused and to make smart career choices, warning that maintaining success is harder than achieving it:
