Good afternoon. I am……..
In this bulletin:
# The EFF says the US resettlement of Afrikaners is aimed at undermining South Africa’s moral standing
# GOOD says the Cape Flats residents meet all the criteria for US refugee status besides their skin colour
# And golf: Jordan Spieth wants to join Rory McIlroy with his own career Grand Slam
# The EFF has criticised the United States for resettling 49 Afrikaners as refugees, alleging that the move aims to undermine South Africa’s moral standing. The EFF contends that this action portrays white South Africans as victims of racial persecution, thereby discrediting the country’s land reform initiatives and post-apartheid progress. Government has dismissed claims of Afrikaner persecution as unfounded and politically motivated.
Meanwhile, the GOOD Party says many residents of the gang-ravaged Cape Flats should qualify for consideration by the US as potential refugees, but the only reason they do not is colour. GOOD secretary-general, Brett Herron says South Africa’s official crime statistics for the final quarter of last year recorded a single murder of a white farmer. He says that is the genocide that the Trump administration appears to have bought hook, line and sinker from AfriForum:
# South Africa is for the first time hosting the International Forum of Terrorism Risk Insurance Pools Conference at the Cape Town Convention Centre. Organised by the South African Special Risk Insurance Association, Sasria, the event brings together 12 countries to discuss global risk resilience. Sasria CEO Mpumelelo Tyikwe says this includes challenges in geopolitical shifts, cyber threats, and climate change:
# Minister of Defence and Military Veterans, Angie Motshekga, is in Berlin, Germany, attending the United Nations peacekeeping ministerial. The high-level forum, brings together Defence ministers from across the globe to discuss strengthening peacekeeping mandates and pledging support for future peace operations. Ministry spokesperson Onicca Kwakwa says Motshekga will also engage with her counterparts, including Germany’s Defence minister, Boris Pistorius, on bilateral issues:
# Golf: Jordan Spieth makes his ninth attempt to complete a career Grand Slam this week by winning the PGA Championship, drawing inspiration from Rory McIlroy we accomplished this feat earlier. Spieth, who has not won any event since 2022, has battled back from wrist surgery last August and feels he has an opportunity at Quail Hollow this week, just as McIlroy did when he won last month’s Masters to become the sixth golfer to win all four major titles. Spieth says it was inspiring watching McIlroy win.
# And the financial indicators: The dollar trades at 18-rand-27-cents and the euro at 20-rand-50-cents. One British pound costs 24-rand-34-cents and Bitcoin trades at 103-thousand-917-dollars. Gold sells at three-thousand-215-dollars-91-cents a fine ounce and Brent crude oil is quoted at 65-dollars-59-cents a barrel.
