# Advanced recycling, promoted as a solution to plastic waste, has been widely criticised for failing to deliver real results. Also known as chemical recycling, it refers to a variety of processes used to break plastics into their constituent molecules. The process has been found to have high costs and technical issues. Experts say this distracts from better solutions like reducing plastic use and improving regular recycling. Critics have warned that without clear data and stronger rules, advanced recycling may be more of a marketing tactic than real progress.
# A leading marine conservation organisation based in Gansbaai in the Western Cape, Marine Dynamics, celebrated its 25th anniversary. The organisation manages the renowned Dyer Island Conservation Trust and the African Penguin and Seabird Sanctuary. It has earned global recognition for its conservation efforts, research, and education initiatives. Speaking to the SABC, CEO Wilfred Chivell praised the organisation for the role it has played in marine ecotourism over the years:
# And finally: Climate change is significantly impacting bird migration and disrupting their patterns while threatening ecosystems. This is according to wildlife biologist and consultant to the United Nations, Francisco Rilla. He says higher temperatures can remove the threat of food scarcity, leading birds to shorten their migrating routes or not flying back to their original habitat at all. Rilla warns if migratory birds start to disappear, it could affect agriculture and the food chain.
