# Rugby: New Zealand narrowly defeated South Africa 48-45 to retain the Under 20 Rugby Championship title at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium in Gqeberha. The Kiwis rallied from 19-0 behind and survived the dying stages with only 13 players to record an epic win. Australia finished second with a hard-fought 40-36 victory over Argentina, who finished last, with South Africa third. Junior Springboks coach, Kevin Foote, praised his team’s character, attack, and progress, saying the tournament has been a positive learning experience:
More rugby news: The Lions suffered a 32-19 defeat to Wales’ Scarlets in the United Rugby Championship at Ellis Park in Johannesburg. The visitors outscored the hosts four tries to three to register a bonus-point win and boost their playoff hopes. The Lions’ hopes of progressing into the knockout stage were ended before kick-off after Italian club Benetton clinched a bonus-point 33-7 victory against defending champions Glasgow Warriors on Saturday, bolstering their playoff aspirations. There is just one round of the regular season to go.
# Soccer: Manchester United’s manager, Ruben Amorim, has suggested that he should be replaced if he is not capable of changing the culture at the club next season. The Reds suffered a 2-0 defeat to West Ham at Old Trafford in the Premier League last night. They have 39 points and are 16th on the table, and are heading for their worst tally since their 1930/31 relegation campaign. Amorim says he is embarrassed about his side’s performances in the competition:
# And finally, cricket: Indian batting legend Virat Kohli has retired from Test cricket with immediate effect, bringing his 14-year career to an end. The 36-year-old has scored nine-thousand-230 runs from his 123 Tests, with 30 centuries and 31 half-centuries. Kohli says this longest format of the game has tested and shaped him, and taught him lessons he will carry for life. He adds he is walking away with a heart full of gratitude. Kohli’s retirement comes after Rohit Sharma also called time on his Test career last week.
