# President Cyril Ramaphosa says the election of Pope Leo the 14th is a profound moment for the Catholic Church and the global community. Robert Prevost is the first American pontiff to head the Catholic Church. In a statement, Ramaphosa says the Pope’s early emphasis on peace is a call that resonates with most of humanity and honours the legacy of the late Pope Francis. He adds that South Africa wishes the pontiff a blessed and transformative papacy that will strengthen faith, unity and social solidarity worldwide.
Meanwhile, DA leader John Steenhuisen says the election of Pope Leo the 14th is a timely reminder to everyone, especially those holding elected office, that leadership means little if no greater mission is served. Steenhuisen says being elected is to be chosen to serve with compassion, principle, and dedication. He adds that he wishes the new Pope strength for his reign.
# Build One South Africa has welcomed the commitment made by deputy president Paul Mashatile in looking to make the National Register for Sex Offenders public for school principals during the hiring process. BOSA’s spokesperson, Roger Solomons, says children deserve safe schools and trusted teachers:

The council, which was established in 2017 to provide oversight and promote integrity in the provincial government, released its biennial state of ethics report on Thursday. Council chairperson, Solomuzi Mabuza, says most complaints to departments were for appointment irregularities, maladministration, corruption, procurement irregularities, and unethical behaviour:

Tottenham advanced to their first European final in six-years after beating Bodø/Glimt 2-0 for a 5-1 aggregate victory. United manager Ruben Amorim says making the final is special:
