# The ANC has accused the DA of misusing the judiciary to score cheap political points. This comes as the High Court in Pretoria has dismissed the DA’s application for leave to appeal an earlier judgment that rejected its request to declare the ANC’s cadre deployment policy unconstitutional. The court found that the DA failed to identify aspects of the cadre deployment policy that were unconstitutional. The ANC says the DA should instead focus on contributing to substantive policy debates and practical solutions for the country.
# Minister in the Presidency for Planning, Monitoring and Evaluation, Maropene Ramokgopa, will lead her Department’s delegation in a workshop with Standard Bank today. The department’s spokesperson Litha Mpondwana says the workshop aims to deepen collaboration in enhancing state capacity in planning, monitoring, and evaluation while supporting the implementation of the Medium-Term Development Plan for 2024 to 2029:
# Gauteng premier Panyaza Lesufi says the DA’s planned motion of no confidence against Johannesburg mayor Dada Morero will not succeed. The DA has accused the mayor of failing the residents, saying instead of leading with integrity, his administration has been marked by mismanagement, patronage networks, and a disturbing lack of transparency. Lesufi says they have the numbers to ensure that this frivolous motion of no confidence fails:
# Black smoke emerged from the chimney over the Sistine Chapel on Wednesday evening, signalling that a first ballot had been held at the conclave and had concluded without the election of a pope. Sixteen days after Pope Francis’s death, 133 cardinals from around the world swore an oath of secrecy as the conclave got underway. From today onwards, two votes will be held in the morning and two in the afternoon until at least 89 cardinals pick the same name. The conclave which elected Pope Francis in 2013 lasted two days.

Goals from Fabian Ruiz and Achraf Hakimi ensured the victory for PSG, who have set up a final against Inter Milan. PSG will be looking to become the first French team to win the Champions League since Marseille in 1993. PSG manager Luis Enrique says it means a lot to reach the final:
