# AfriForum has welcomed the Constitutional Court’s confirmation of a 2023 order by the Supreme Court of Appeal, that a section of the South African Citizenship Act 88 of 1995 is unconstitutional and invalid. The section caused South African citizens to lose their citizenship automatically if they voluntarily acquired citizenship of another country. AfriForum’s Sue-Ann de Wet says the ConCourt’s decision is a milestone for thousands of South Africans abroad who, based on this section, automatically lost their citizenship:
# ActionSA says it will launch its bold initiative to rewrite South Africa’s economic transformation agenda towards real and lasting redress today. Leader Herman Mashaba will lead the launch at the Apartheid Museum in Ormonde, south of Johannesburg. The party’s spokesperson, Matthew George, says 31 years into democracy, but the promise of meaningful change remains unfulfilled for many previously disadvantaged communities:
# Deputy minister of Police, Polly Boshielo, is set to meet the families of missing journalist Aserie Ndlovu and his partner Zodwa Mdhluli at the KwaMhlanga Police Station in Mpumalanga today. She will be accompanied by National Police Commissioner Fannie Masemola. Police are still searching for the couple who were last seen in Mamelodi, East of Pretoria, more than two months ago. To date, four suspects linked to the case have been arrested and charged with hijacking and kidnapping. One of the suspects will appear in court today.
# President Donald Trump says the US will stop the bombings against the Iran-backed Houthi rebel group in Yemen. This is after the group agreed to stop targeting shipping in the Red Sea. The US stepped up air strikes on the Houthis in March, with the military stating it has struck one-thousand targets in Yemen since then. Oman says it mediated a ceasefire deal between the Houthis and the US. Trump says this is an important development:
# Cricket: The Gujarat Titans defeated the Mumbai Indians by three wickets via the Duckworth-Lewis-Stern method, to move to the top of the Indian Premier League standings. Mumbai posted 155 for eight. In reply, Gujarat started their initial run chase with a second-wicket stand of 72 between captain Shubman Gill and Jos Buttler. Multiple rain delays saw the target revised to 147 off 19 overs. Needing 15 runs off the final over, Rahul Tewatia alongside Arshad Khan guided Gujarat home off the very last ball of the match.
# And the financial indicators: The dollar trades at 18-rand-22-cents and the euro at 20-rand-66-cents. One British pound costs 24-rand-31-cents and Bitcoin trades at 96-thousand-436-dollars.
