# Justice and Constitutional Development minister Mmamoloko Kubayi says had state capture been allowed to continue unabated, South Africa would have been reduced to a failed state. She addressed the 15th Commonwealth Regional Conference for Heads of Anti-Corruption Agencies in Africa in Cape Town on Monday. The minister says corruption, regardless of its complexity, has enablers. Kubayi says methods of preventing and combating corruption should be infused with modern technology tools, such as artificial intelligence:
# The African Media and Communicators Forum and National Press Club have welcomed the breakthrough in the case of missing journalist Sibusiso Aserie Ndlovu and his partner Zodwa Mdhluli. Four people have been arrested in connection with the disappearance of the couple. Ndlovu, the founder of Capital FM Live, was last seen leaving his workplace in Mamelodi, while Mdhluli was last seen in KwaMhlanga on February 18. National Press Club’s spokesperson, Antoinette Slabbert, says this latest development did not come as a surprise:
# Public Works minister Dean Macpherson will commemorate the first anniversary of the George building collapse today. The tragedy claimed 35 lives and injured 28 others. Ahead of the ceremony at George Town Hall, Macpherson will privately brief victims’ families on investigative progress. The Department of Public Works is also finalising a report on professional accountability within the built environment sector.
# Rwanda’s Foreign minister Olivier Nduhungirehe has confirmed they are in the early stages of talks to receive immigrants deported from the US. Last week, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said he was searching for more countries to take in people. This is as president Donald Trump’s administration steps up efforts to deport immigrants who entered the US without documents and other noncitizens. Nduhungirehe says the government was in the spirit of giving another chance to migrants who have problems worldwide.
# Motorsport: Two riders have died and another suffered significant injuries following an accident during a British Supersport Championship race at Oulton Park in Cheshire, England. Owen Jenner and Shane Richardson sustained fatal injuries in an 11-bike crash at the first corner of the opening lap. Tom Tunstall was transferred to the hospital with significant back and abdominal injuries, while five other riders were treated at the track for minor injuries. The Motorcycle Circuit Racing Control Board and MotorSport Vision Racing are investigating the full circumstances of the incident.
# And the financial indicators: The dollar trades at 18-rand-27-cents and the euro at 20-rand-67-cents. One British pound costs 24-rand-28-cents and Bitcoin trades at 94-thousand-296-dollars.
