# The Springboks’ one-point heroics during the 2023 World Cup in France led to a record-setting series on M-Net last year. The five-part-series, Chasing the Sun Two – A Story for South Africa, had the most viewers for DStv channel 101’s traditional movie night slot at eight o’clock on a Sunday night and outperformed popular Hollywood productions and shows. Multichoice CEO Byron du Plessis says Chasing the Sun Two is a shining example of how world-class storytelling resonates deeply with South Africans.
# In just a few weeks since the launch of the new finDR platform by Profmed, 725 unemployed doctors and 30 medical practices have already signed up. This innovative platform aims to support young, unemployed doctors in South Africa, by connecting them with medical practices in need of assistance or looking to hire new graduates. Profmed’s Zulé Vuuren says finDR not only helps young professionals gain valuable work opportunities but also strengthens the healthcare sector by addressing staffing shortages:
# The Nelson Mandela Museum has welcomed a delegation of students from different German institutions of higher learning for a two-week International Youth Camp in Qunu in the Eastern Cape. The camp seeks to exchange intercultural diversity, geopolitics, tourism and the role played by late former president Nelson Mandela and other freedom fighters in the liberation struggle. Eastern Cape Sports, Arts and Culture MEC, Sibulele Ngongo, told the SABC that dialogue and shared experiences among youth from diverse cultures are important:
# The highly anticipated eighth film in the iconic spy Mission Impossible franchise, Mission: Impossible-The Final Reckoning, will officially premiere at the Cannes Film Festival in France next month. Tom Cruise reprises his role as Ethan Hunt and is joined by Angela Bassett, Hayley Atwell, Ving Rhames, and Simon Pegg. Cruise and director-writer Christopher McQuarrie will be in attendance at the premiere, marking Cruise’s third time at Cannes. The film’s global release is May 23rd.
# And finally: Platform game Astro Bot was the big winner at the BAFTA Games Awards, earning five honours including best game of the year and best animation. The psychological horror game Still Wakes the Deep won three awards. The award for leading performance went to Alec Newman for his role as Cameron McLeary in Still Wakes the Deep. Legendary composer Yoko Shimomura was recognised for her contribution to gaming. Astro Bot director, Nicolas Doucet, praised developers who have inspired others to join the industry:
