# The Santa Shoebox Project has officially opened applications for beneficiaries, allowing people to nominate a school, creche, or child-focused organisation that deserves to receive Santa Shoeboxes. The Santa Shoebox Project originated in Cape Town in 2006, distributes gifts in shoeboxes to underprivileged children in South Africa and Namibia. Last year, it distributed 74-thousand-751 shoe boxes to beneficiaries including the Kisima Orphanage Home, Hearts Of Hope, and Planet Brain Academy in Namibia. Applications close on the 24th of April.
# The We’re Against Starvation or WAS Foundation’s Love on Display Shopping Project is restoring dignity and hope to those facing homelessness in Krugersdorp-West, Gauteng. Through donated clothing and shoes, beneficiaries shop for free, boosting self-esteem and confidence. WAS Foundation founder, Esmarelda Van Zyl-Kilian, says the initiative is made possible by kind-hearted supporters. She says that donations not only meet essential needs but also uplift lives and foster compassion in the community.
# Internationally acclaimed and five-time Grammy award-winning group, Ladysmith Black Mambazo, will be wrapping up their highly acclaimed US tour on Saturday. They will be performing at the Trustees Theatre in Savannah, Georgia. The group, which is celebrating 65 years in the music industry, has been touring the US since last year. Ladysmith Black Mambazo will also be embarking on a national tour next month, treating South African audiences to a treasure trove of their timeless classics, including Nomathemba and Homeless, and new songs.
# Twenty-time Grammy Award-winning artist, Bruce Springsteen, is set to release seven albums of mostly unheard songs on the 27th of June. The 83-song collection, of which 74 have never been officially released, will be made available in a box set called Tracks II: The Lost Albums. Springsteen, who is one of the world’s best-selling artists, says the songs were written and re-recorded between 1983 and 2018:
# And finally: Today is International Carrot Day, a day dedicated to the promotion and consumption of carrots, as well as raising awareness about the health benefits of the vegetable. Originating in Sweden, International Carrot Day has grown into a global celebration, with enthusiasts coming together to share their love for this vibrant root vegetable. Some interesting facts about carrots include, there are over 100 species of edible carrots, they have the largest content of vitamin A amongst vegetables, and they consist of 87-percent of water.
