# India has welcomed South Africa’s donation of historic artefacts that belonged to lawyer and social activist Mahatma Gandhi. The items, which hold significant historical and cultural value, will now be displayed at India’s National Gandhi Museum. Officials from both countries hailed the donation as a tribute to Gandhi’s enduring legacy and commitment to peace and justice. They say this gesture strengthens the historical ties between the two nations, as Gandhi spent over two decades in South Africa shaping his philosophy of non-violence.
# ROTOCON has kicked off its third annual student wine label design competition in partnership with the Tshwane University of Technology. Sixty undergraduate students from the Department of Visual Communication, and Faculty of Arts and Design are participating in the competition. Students are challenged to develop innovative, cutting-edge wine label designs. ROTOCON’s Banie Stafford says this competition shows their investment in youth and social development by fostering creativity and sharing new industry knowledge and hands-on experience in wine label design. The winner will be announced on April 15.
# Two University of Fort Hare researchers, Leocadia Zhou and Shadreck Muchaku, have garnered international recognition for their latest research. They won the first runner-up Best Paper Award at the International Conference on Green and Sustainable Development in Rwanda. Their research investigated water and sanitation challenges in Nompumelelo township in Beacon Bay, East London. Zhou and Muchaku’s paper was distinguished for its exceptional societal impact, ranking among the most influential research contributions at the conference.
# Nedbank extended a helping hand to the University of Venda’s Thoho Ya Nzie Social Welfare Project with another generous donation, with the amount not disclosed. Last year, the bank donated 6.6-million-rand to address student challenges, including food insecurity. The university’s Takalani Dzaga says the project now stands better equipped to continue its mission of uplifting lives, proving that when businesses and communities join forces, real change happens.
# And finally: Amy Pascal and David Heyman will produce the next James Bond movie. Pascal is best known for the three latest Spider-Man titles, while Heyman was behind all eight Harry Potter movies. Longtime Bond producers Barbara Broccoli and Michael G Wilson announced they were stepping down from the franchise in February. Amazon MGM Studios says they are excited to deliver to global audiences storytelling that upholds the impeccable legacy of this beloved character. The search is still on for who will play James Bond replacing Daniel Craig.
