# We start with very good athletics news: Twenty-three-year-old Prudence Sekgodiso claimed South Africa’s first gold medal at the World Athletics Indoor Championships in Nanjing, China. She won the women’s 800-metres in a world-leading time of one-minute-58.40-seconds, with Ethiopia’s Nigist Getachew finishing second and Portugal’s Patricia Silva in third. Sekgodiso’s gold was the country’s second medal of the competition, adding to Akani Simbine’s bronze in the 60-metres, lifting South Africa to eleventh on the medals table. This is also the first-ever medal for a South African woman in the competition.
# Golf: South Africa’s George Coetzee shot a final round three-under 69 to win the Serengeti Playoffs by three strokes at the Serengeti Estates in Gauteng. This is his 15th title on the Sunshine Tour. Daniel van Tonder finished second on 16 under par with a final round of 69. Stefan Wears-Taylor shared third place with youngsters Kyle de Beer and Stals Swart. Coetzee says when he was injured he continued to work on his game:
# Cricket: Sunrisers Hyderabad and Chennai Super Kings are off to a winning start in the Indian Premier League. Ishan Kishan smashed an unbeaten 106 as the Sunrisers began their campaign with a 44-run victory over Rajasthan Royals. The Sunrisers lost last year’s final to the Kolkata Knight Riders. In yesterday’s second match, New Zealand’s Rachin Ravindra struck an unbeaten 65 to guide Chennai to a four-wicket win over Mumbai Indians. Today Delhi Capitals take on Lucknow Super Giants.
# Motorsport: Three drivers were disqualified from the Formula One Chinese Grand Prix, after failing post-race technical checks. Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc lost fifth place after his car was deemed underweight in post-race checks. His teammate Lewis Hamilton, who finished sixth, was disqualified after his car was found to be less than the required thickness after the race. Alpine’s Pierre Gasly lost eleventh place for failing post-race weight checks. McLaren’s Oscar Piastri won the race in Shanghai with his teammate Lando Norris in second and Mercedes’ George Russell in third.
# And finally, tennis: Six-time Miami Open champion Novak Djokovic is through to the last 16, following victory over Argentina’s Camilo Ugo Carabelli. The Serb has now earned a record 411th ATP Masters One-thousand match win, breaking a tie with Spaniard Rafael Nadal. Djokovic will next face Italian Lorenzo Musetti, who overcame Canada’s Felix Auger-Aliassime. American Sebastian Korda knocked out Greece’s Stefanos Tsitsipas, while France’s Gael Monfils battled past Spain’s Jaume Munar.
