# The Free Market Foundation warns that economic freedom is impossible without property rights being respected. The foundation’s director, Eustace Davie, warns the new Expropriation Act threatens investment and stability. The act aims to accelerate the redistribution of land in South Africa. Davie has emphasised that secure property rights drive prosperity, innovation, and trust. He has urged government to protect ownership rights to ensure economic freedom, stability, and progress for all.
# Union federation Cosatu has called for a bold, progressive budget to tackle South Africa’s economic challenges. Spokesperson Matthew Parks demands increased support for Eskom, Transnet, and public services. He emphasises that Cosatu opposes income tax hikes on workers, urging government to instead boost funding to the South African Revenue Service to combat tax evasion:
# Four learners died and five have been injured when a vehicle transporting them collided with a bakkie outside Daveyton in Ekurhuleni, Gauteng, this morning. City Disaster and Emergency Management Services spokesperson, William Ntladi says the entire freeway had to be closed for traffic as rescue teams were still on the scene. He says all the victims are learners of different ages and schools:
# Cycling: Close to 28-thousand entrants took part in the 47th Cape Town Cycle Tour yesterday. South Africa’s 21-year-old Tyler Lange stormed to victory in the men’s elite race, while Germany’s Pia Grünewald delivered a masterclass in solo riding to clinch the women’s elite title. Cape Town mayor Geordin Hill-Lewis, who completed the race alongside his wife, says the whole event was amazing:
# The financial indicators: The dollar trades at 18-rand-28-cents and the euro at 19-rand-86-cents. One British pound costs 23-rand-61-cents and Bitcoin trades at 81-thousand-944-dollars. Gold sells at two-thousand-905-dollars-12-cents a fine ounce and Brent crude oil is quoted at 70-dollars-33-cents a barrel.
# And finally: Actor Pierce Brosnan has said it is a given that the next James Bond should be British. In an interview with Sunday Telegraph, the former Bond also said he thought it was the right decision for the franchise’s long-standing producers to hand creative control to Amazon. The choice of Daniel Craig’s successor will be a decision for Amazon MGM Studios. The last film in the franchise, No Time To Die, in 2021, was Craig’s last. Brosnan starred in four Bond films from 1995’s GoldenEye until 2002’s Die Another Day.
