# Former deputy president Mlambo-Ngcuka urges global unity amid US uncertainty
# And rugby: Bok Women Sevens stay on track despite Kenya defeat
# Eskom has suspended load-shedding after restoring over three-thousand MegaWatts of generation capacity and replenishing emergency reserves in the past 44 hours. Spokesperson Daphne Mokoena says Kusile Power Station’s coal operations are optimal, with all offline units now back in service. Progress on Koeberg Unit 2’s recovery is well underway. She confirmed that four-thousand-and-91 MegaWatts are set for restoration by tomorrow:
# Former deputy president Phumzile Mlambo-Ngcuka has called for increased collaboration between South Africa and other nations to build a better world. Speaking on global challenges at an event of the Thabo Mbeki Foundation, Mlambo-Ngcuka emphasised the importance of unity, particularly as the US becomes more unpredictable. She stressed the need for countries to work together in addressing global issues and fostering a stable future:
At the same event, auditor general Tsakani Maluleke called for renewed efforts towards achieving full gender equality. She emphasised the need to dismantle legal, social, and economic barriers to women’s empowerment. Maluleke urged all sectors to accelerate efforts to realise gender equity, in the wake of the Beijing Declaration’s 30th anniversary. She said that public sector institutions must be intentional:
# Leading European nations support an Arab-backed plan for the reconstruction of Gaza that would cost 968-billion-rand and avoid displacing Palestinians. The plan has been rejected by Israel and US president Donald Trump. France, Germany, Italy and Britain welcomed the plan, and call for Gaza to be rebuilt over five years and temporarily governed by a committee of independent experts with international peacekeepers deployed to the territory. The Arab-backed plan for Gaza’s future is an alternative to Trump’s idea for the US to take over the territory and resettle its population.
# And rugby: The Springbok Women’s Sevens coach Renfred Dazel remains confident in their 2025 qualification goal despite a 17-0 defeat to Kenya in the World Rugby Sevens Challenger final in Cape Town. Dazel says South Africa now sits second on the log ahead of the final Challenger tournament in Poland next month. The squad looks forward to the playoffs in Los Angeles in May:
