# The City of Cape Town has launched a marketing campaign targeting Indian travellers to attract a greater share of the country’s rapidly-growing outbound tourism and investment market. Travelport is projecting that India’s outbound travel market will reach 39-million people by 2028, a massive surge from the 28.2-million international Indian travellers in 2023. Mayoral committee member for Economic Growth, James Vos, says that being the best city in the world for 2025, Cape Town is perfectly positioned to tap into this market:
# Two lionesses introduced to Addo Elephant National Park near Gqeberha are now roaming the game viewing area. Brought from !Khamab Kalahari Reserve in December, the two-and-a-half-year-old sisters bring strong genetic diversity to the park’s lion population. South African National Parks says they will help researchers track habitat use, predator interactions, and prey species. Their introduction is part of a conservation effort to manage lion populations and maintain ecological balance in the park.
# St John Eye Care is offering free eye tests at its centres nationwide until June to support vulnerable communities. The centres provide affordable eye care and first aid training. This initiative is part of the organisation’s ongoing community outreach efforts, including partnering with Woza Moya to help crafters struggling with vision problems in Durban. The organisation has emphasised that by restoring eyesight, it is empowering individuals to continue their work in making a difference in people’s lives with the gift of sight. World Optometry Day is on March 23rd.
# Oscar winner Adrien Brody, Imelda Staunton, and Robert Icke, are some of the nominees for British theatre’s most prestigious honours, the Olivier Awards,. Brody is nominated for best actor for his performance in The Fear Of 13. Staunton is up for best actress in a musical for Hello, Dolly, her 14th Olivier nomination. Icke has been nominated for best director for Oedipus. Fiddler On The Roof is this year’s most nominated production, with 13 nods. The awards ceremony will be at the Royal Albert Hall on April 6.
# And finally, basketball: Los Angeles Lakers forward, LeBron James, has become the first player in NBA history to score 50-thousand career points across both the regular season and playoffs. The 40-year-old achieved this feat in their victory against New Orleans Pelicans in front of their home crowd at Crypto.com Arena in California. James, who is also the NBA’s all-time leading scorer, says reaching this new milestone is special:
