# The DA says the MK Party’s treason case against AfriForum is a political stunt
# The Road Freight Association welcomes the fuel price decrease
# And Donald Trump says he wants to rescue the US economy
# The DA says the political stunt by the MK Party in laying charges of treason against AfriForum is something South Africa can ill-afford, amid the turbulent and rapidly-changing global political environment. Last month, the MK filed a complaint of treason, accusing AfriForum of lobbying foreign powers to act against the country. On Monday, the Hawks revealed that they are investigating four dockets of high treason, presumably against AfriForum and Solidarity. The DA’s, Willie Aucamp, says now is a time for unity:
# The Road Freight Association has welcomed the marginal decrease in fuel prices this month. The price of 95 and 93 unleaded petrol has decreased by seven-cents a litre, while diesel users will pay 17.5-cents and 23.5-cents less per litre, depending on the grade. The wholesale price of illuminating paraffin has decreased by six-cents a litre. The association’s CEO, Gavin Kelly, says fuel remains a high operational input cost for any company or business that requires goods to be transported:
# Minister of Human Settlements, Thembi Simelane, says the government is looking at permanent housing solutions for flood victims in KwaZulu-Natal. At least 20 people have died following heavy rains and flooding in the province over the last two weeks. On Tuesday, the minister visited affected sites in Impala Holiday Flats and Lamontville Township and engaged with flood victims. She will continue her visit today. Simelane says they are looking into possibilities of purchasing land or buildings, reworking them, and repurposing them into units for the flood victims.
# US president Donald Trump says his administration will reclaim power from an unaccountable bureaucracy, and they will restore true democracy to America again. He addressed a joint session of Congress. Trump claims they inherited, from the last administration, an economic catastrophe and an inflation nightmare. He says that among his highest priorities are to rescue the economy and get dramatic and immediate relief to working families:
# Soccer: Defending champions Real Madrid recorded a 2-1 victory over Atletico Madrid, giving them a slender advantage after the first leg of their Champions League last-16 tie at the Bernabeu. Brahim Diaz scored the second-half winner after Atletico forward Julian Alvarez had cancelled out Rodrygo’s opener. In Eindhoven, Arsenal defeated PSV 7-1, becoming the first team to score seven goals away from home in a Champions League knockout tie. Aston Villa beat Club Brugge 3-1, while Borussia Dortmund were held to a one-all draw against Lille.
# And the financial indicators: The dollar trades at 18-rand-47-cents and the euro at 19-rand-61-cents. One British pound costs 23-rand-61-cents and Bitcoin trades at 87-thousand-255-dollars. Gold sells at two-thousand-911-dollars-45-cents a fine ounce and Brent crude oil is quoted at 70-dollars-61-cents a barrel.
