# African Security Congress calls for greater accountability for all those involved in Eskom procurement processes
# And golf: South Africa’s Norris takes the lead at the South African Open
# COSATU’s central executive committee has noted the latest headlines that a delegation from AfriForum had once again meeting with officials from the United States’ administration. AfriForum and Solidarity met with US officials on Tuesday to secure funding for a separate Afrikaner settlement and community infrastructure in South Africa. Cosatu’s spokesperson, Zanele Sabela says the federation reiterates its stance and stands firmly behind president Cyril Ramaphosa and government in defence of South Africa’s sovereignty and values:
# The African Security Congress is calling for greater accountability for all individuals involved in Eskom procurement processes that led to the allegedly unjustified awarding of a 500-million-rand contract to Fidelity Security Services. The ASC advocates for the rights and interests of private security guards in the country. Its president Tebogo Motloung says it is imperative that those who manipulated the system to secure the contract be held responsible for their actions. He says they are urging the National Prosecuting Authority to pursue legal action against those who have breached the law:
# Hundreds of thousands of people rallied in cities and towns across Greece to demand justice on the second anniversary of the country’s deadliest-ever train crash, and striking workers grounded flights and halted sea and train transport. Fifty-seven people were killed when a passenger train filled with students collided with a freight train on 28 February 2023, near the Tempi gorge in central Greece. Two years later, the safety gaps that caused the crash have not been filled. A separate judicial investigation remains unfinished and no one has been convicted.
# Golf: South Africa’s Shaun Norris seized the lead in the South African Open yesterday, while countryman Dylan Naidoo surged into contention with a round of 61. Also, England’s Dale Whitnell stunned the field with his two holes-in-one in a single round at the Durban Country Club. By the end of a long day in which the field had to complete the suspended first round and then go straight into the second, Norris finished off his opening 66 and then produced a second round of 64 to lead on 14 under par overall.
# And finally: The EFF has extended its well wishes to the Muslim community in South Africa and across the world as they begin the sacred month of Ramadan. This is a time of deep spiritual reflection, self-discipline, and devotion, where millions of Muslims engage in fasting and prayer as an expression of faith and submission. Ramadan is observed as a commemoration of the month in which the Holy Qur’an was revealed to the Prophet Muhammad. The EFF urged workplaces to accommodate Muslim employees, ensuring they are treated with dignity and allowed the necessary time for prayer and breaking their fasts.
