# The Cape Town Pride Festival will come to an end this weekend with the annual Cape Town Pride Parade and Mardi Gras. The parade will be the culmination of a month-long pride festival celebrating diversity and inclusion and raising awareness of LGBTIQ+. Mayoral committee member for Safety and Security, JP Smith, says the metro is committed to building an inclusive city, home to a diverse group of people from different backgrounds, ethnicities, creed and sexual orientation:
# The Tshwane University of Technology has been ranked fourth among South Africa’s 26 public universities for creative research outputs. This recognition is by the Department of Higher Education and Training’s Creative Research Outputs and Innovations Report 2024. Creative research outputs are assessed across various disciplines, including fine and visual arts, music, theatre, performance and dance, design, film and television, and literary arts. The top three institutions were Stellenbosch University, the University of Johannesburg, and Rhodes University.
# Forty-two cyclists will ride 500 kilometres from East London to Cape Town from March second to the sixth. The ride aims to raise around 400-thousand-rand for the Eyabantwana-For The Children Trust. The funds will support vital surgical equipment for paediatric care in the Eastern Cape. So far, 262-thousand-rand has been raised. The annual ride seeks to improve the quality of children’s healthcare.
# Pop star Katy Perry and CBS Mornings host Gayle King will be part of an all-women flight on Blue Origin’s New Shepherd rocket, scheduled to blast off later this year. They will be joined by Blue Origin owner Jeff Bezos’s fiancée, Lauren Sanchez, former NASA rocket scientist, Aisha Bowe, civil rights activist, Amanda Nguyen, and film producer Kerianne Flynn. Blue Origin says this is the first all-women space flight to take place since the Soviet Union’s Valentina Tereshkova’s solo mission in 1963.
# And finally: Elafonissi Beach in Crete, Greece, known for its pink sand and warm, crystal-clear waters, is TripAdvisor’s best beach in the world for 2025. TripAdvisor says this year’s lists span six continents and 50 countries, with over 100 of the very best beaches showcasing the eclectic mix of coastal spots across the world. Second on the list is Banana Beach in Phuket, Thailand, with Eagle Beach in Oranjestad, Aruba, in third. Florida’s Siesta Beach and Praia da Falésia in Portugal wrap up the top five.
