Good afternoon. I am……..
In this bulletin:
# ActionSA slams the government of national unity for 141-million-rand’s travel expenditure in six months
# The ANC Youth League files criminal charges against the Zanzou nightclub owners
# And rugby, the Blitzboks smash Ireland to stay unbeaten
# ActionSA has accused the government of national unity of reckless spending, revealing that over 141-million-rand has been squandered on travel in six months. This comes as South Africans face a proposed VAT increase. ActionSA’s Athol Trollip says the party is demanding full disclosure from ministers and calls for the abolition of deputy minister positions to form a smaller cabinet. He vows to expose wasteful spending, insisting taxpayers should not bear the cost of government excess.
# The Tshwane ANC Youth League has filed criminal charges against the owners of Zanzou nightclub at Brooklyn police station. This action follows leaked videos depicting severe violence and abuse at the Pretoria venue. Gauteng police have arrested a 41-year-old Congolese man in connection with the assaults and are actively pursuing seven other suspects. The league’s regional secretary, Onkgopotse Thompson-Peete, called for justice:
# The Vanderbijlpark Magistrate’s Court has denied bail to a 32-year-old woman accused of selling her two-year-old son to unknown individuals. NPA’s Lumka Mahanjana says the charges include human trafficking, conspiracy to commit robbery and making a false police statement. The child remains missing. Mahanjana says the court found a strong case against her, citing her false kidnapping report and attempts to interfere with investigations:
# President Donald Trump has dismissed the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, Charles Q. Brown and replaced him with John Dan “Razin” Caine. Brown was the second black man to serve as America’s most senior general. Minutes later, secretary of Defense, Pete Hegseth, fired the chief of the Navy and the first female member of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, admiral Lisa Franchetti. The move appears to send a strong signal from an administration that has outlawed diversity and inclusion efforts across the military and wider government.
# And rugby: The Springbok Sevens side made it two from two as they powered home 28-7 against Ireland in their second match at the Vancouver Sevens. Tries by Ricardo Duartee and Sebastian Jobb, who celebrated his return by finishing off a move after the hooter, put the Blitzboks into the quarterfinals. The team opened their campaign with a stunning, narrow 12-10 win over archrivals New Zealand on Friday night. The Blitzboks were made to work hard for their victory and relied on their defence to pull through a tight match where they didn’t have too much of the ball.
The Blitzboks now have to face Australia on Saturday night just after 9:30 to complete their pool fixtures before the cup quarterfinals await in the early hours of Sunday morning. Australia beat Ireland 17-7 in their opener, but lost to New Zealand 7-17 in their second game of the tournament.
