# One of South Africa’s most celebrated comedians, Stuart Taylor, is set to bring his brand-new stand-up show, Odd Man Out, to the Baxter Theatre in Cape Town next month. The show is an uproarious, self-deprecating journey through the highs and lows of Taylor’s life as a dad in his 40s. The comedian says his goal is to shine a light on those relatable moments, proving that everyone is dealing with the same chaos, just in different disguises. The show will run from 4 to 8 March.
# Two leading researchers at the University of Fort Hare have been ranked among South Africa’s top 100 scientists, in the AD Scientific Index World Scientist and University Rankings 2025. Globally, over 2.4-million scientists from 221 countries at more than 24-thousand institutions were ranked. In South Africa, more than 19-thousand scientists from 74 institutions are featured in the index. Professor Anthony Afolayan ranked 43rd, while professor Anthony Okoh ranked 58th. The university says this remarkable achievement highlights their continued contributions to science and academia.
# The Durban North community has donated books to 51 early childhood development centres. Supported by the Domino Foundation, the centres received a range of storybooks to enhance children’s literacy and spark their imaginations. The books aim to help establish a strong reading culture and improve literacy skills, addressing the challenge that 43-percent of South African homes lack books. The foundation is also seeking more donations for books, bookshelves, and carpets to support the centres’ reading corners.
# Former US vice president Kamala Harris will receive the Chairman’s Award at the 56th NAACP Image Awards set to be held at the Pasadena Civic Auditorium on Saturday. The award honours individuals who excel in public service and leverage their unique platforms to ignite and drive meaningful change. NAACP National Board of Directors chairperson, Leon Russell, says Harris is a force of change, driven by an unwavering passion to shape a brighter, more equitable future. Past honourees include Barack Obama and Samuel L Jackson.
# And finally: The Duchess of Sussex, Meghan Markle, has relaunched her lifestyle brand from American Riviera Orchard to As Ever. Products will range from jewellery, pet food, and yoga gear, to home decor and cookbooks. This comes two weeks before the launch of her Netflix show, With Love, Meghan, which the streamer says reimagines the genre of lifestyle.
